Bushmaster finally attracts a Customer
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

The US has gained the rights to manufacture the Australian Bushmaster IPC. The Bushmaster is a highly surviveable Wheeled Infantry PC which has been making a name for itself in IRAQ and Afghanistan where they are under operational field trials. Another case of we design it, fund the development and then let someone else make the profit. Good one ADI...
I can understand them allow lic prod for the US Military but to sell off the International rights is ludicrous.

Cheers

Don't be so hasty. It may not be a bad deal at all. Depending on the license arrangement they may make more this way. If the US licensee produces it in volume for the U.S. Military there will be a certain amount of other business that will want ones off the same production run so they can live off the U.S. infrastructure. Those customers would be a tough sell for an 'almost identical' model produced in a different manufacturing system with different changes incorporated at different times.

So by selling off the international rights the developing company can possibly make more money by getting license fees (or royalties) on a much bigger production run than what they would have been able to sell on their own.

Maybe it is a bad deal, but maybe it is a good one. I don't think there are enough details avialable to decide

Oshkosh was demonstrating the Bushmaster at Ft. Knox this past month. It just left on Thursday.

Don't forget that the US Army has a recent track record of upgrading and improving the designs they are using, and incorporating the changes into current production vehicles. The international rights are not worth much to the company if the costs of keeping a commercial model current with the Army's latest modifications are prohibitive. While not every customer will not want the latest and greatest, some will. Better for Bushmaster to allow the Army to produce the international versions, and sit back as the royalty checks roll in (or whatever the equivalent of that licensing fee might be).

I'm not sure that I follow the arguments for and against selling the rights to manufacture the Bushmaster, but it's interesting that it has attracted a potential international market.

Perhaps the interest could result in a model, preferably small scale!

The agreement with Oshkosh is for the Licence-manufacture of the vehicle in specified markets particularly the USA itself, and any country that is authorised for FMS sales..............this does NOT give Oshkosh control of Worldwide sales.

Intellectual Property rights remain with ADI and, most probably, TIMONEY, seeing as this vehicle is a derivative of a Timoney design! Rolling Eyes

Timoney, I believe, still manufactures and provides all the suspension set-ups?

There is a very nice prototype of a flat-bed truck version being publicised as well as the fact they have a number sold for Bushfires Fighting tasks with the cabin replaced by a foam system.

Al, Bug et al

You can see an example of the "Oshkosh" Bushmaster on the Tradoc video in the thread started by Shawn. The Oshkosh Bushmaster seems to have rolled straight off the ADI production line.

I heard a radio interview with an ADI rep promoting the use of the Bushmaster fire fighting vehicle some time ago. I believe that it is intended to provide a safer platform for more dangerous fire fighting situations.

This is the fire-fighting version as employed by the ForestrySA (SA= South Australia) organisation, it's called the Fireking..........another firefighting group rejected the FireKing for looking too aggressive!? Shocked
Obviously it's politically incorrect to scare a fire.........or some twaddle like that! Mr. Green

The vehicle above is basically the Flat-bed below with a fire-fighting set-up installed...........this is the proposed flat-bed at Trials, an obvious candidate as a Logistics Support vehicle with a 4,000 kilo max load capability (or 2 x ISO 1E Containers 8x8x6.5 feet)...................

BUG

There's an "Oshkosh" Bushmaster in the video linked to Shawn's Tradoc post.

The flat-bed would seem a logical choice for the logistics support role given performance, economies of scale in terms of maintenance, training, etc, and crew protection without the need for enhanced protection kits.

FireKing's enough for me to want to become a firie!

FireKing is supposed to be up for more Orders shortly...........the vehicle below is the Timoney MP-44 the "Father" design of the Bushmaster........

Bug, lad:

My blood boils as hot as yours when PC crap like the term "aggressive" can possibly be applied to a vehicle that, with only the loss of the side mirrors and windshield wipers, which would quickly be stripped away, can bust through brush and get some fire suppression where it is needed.

If the fire feels offended by an 'aggressive' vehicle, maybe it could sue?
