I had these as well as many more e-mailed to me. I thought these were the best though so I'm posting them for your enjoyment. You dont usually see the C130 so I had to include these, esspecially the JATO pic. Thats Alcatraz behind the C130. The Twin Towers and Niagra Falls should be easy to identify.

Here are a few more for your viewing pleasure. I've never seen them or any of the militarys flight demostration teams, but I would sure love to some day. Does anyone know if the actual airplanes are straight from the factory, or are they pulled from a unit and repainted and put on the show circuit? I imagine they have special equipment/gear not associated with combat aircraft, correct me if I'm wrong, (and I'm sure you will, haha).

I've seen them perform in serveral different airshows across the country and they are outstanding. Don't pass up a chance to see them if you can... Wink

I can't tell you if those are 'stock' F18's or not.

Some other groups of interest are the Thunderbirds and Snobirds. The T-Birds do about the same show as Blue Angels except they use F16's and fly faster.

To tell you the truth, I've seen the Blue Angels before, and, from the ground, I didn't think it was all that impressive (well, the formations. The solo passes were awesome!). Don't get me wrong, it was cool, but I think it would be a lot more impressive from the cockpit than the ground :). As for the F-18s, yes, they are "stock" F-18s. They are all combat ready, you just need to add some weapons to them. The only difference is they they are maintained and cleaned to a much higher standard than normal.

That's be quite intimidating, to see one of those things coming after you Mr. Green

Per a March 1988 article in ICA Magazine by Erik Simonsen.

"The debut of the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet took place on November 9, 1988..... Eleven preproduction aircraft (not equiped for carrier operations), fitted with smoke-generating systems and special seat harnessers, were turned over for Blue Angle duty."

"First airshow featuring the F-18s took place on April 25, 1987, at MCAS Yuma, Arizona."

Never notice it before, but it does look like the Blue Angel aircraft do not have landing hooks.

Oooooorrr.... maybe I was wrong I just remembered the announcer guy at the airshow saying that all the planes were combat ready. Guess he lied Wink

I recall speaking to one of the pilots a couple of years ago, and I thought he said that they were flying C and D models now. 1987 is a long time ago, and I suspect that they might have had "a few modifications" since then.

And who could forget the Snowbirds. As much as the Thunder Birds and the Blue Angels are fast and loud, what these guys lack in aircraft they make up for in skill. The DND has considered using F-18's, but that would be a copy. So the Tutors soldier on,yet to see retirement in the near future. I personally suggest F-14's, with those swept wings they could make some sweet formations. Then creeps in the cost factor. So thats my view. I have had the privaledge to see all three of the Performances in question, all at the Abbotsford Intl. Airshow. So enjoy them while they last, because if the planes fall apart, ya can't really fly 'em
