armor: did the M40 SP Long Tom's see any action during the later stages of WW2.

well, fellas, took the new AR out to the range. i am a little dissappointed in this rifle. from the standing position, at 100 yards, i cant get a grouping any tighter than 3 inches.

no, i love this rifle. the bullet is a little on the girly side but i am going to get some enjoyment out of this rifle...

The M40 itself did not see combat in WWII. However, the pilot T83 was shipped to Europe and saw action very late in the war.

Like the Long Tom, your AR accuracy is all in the twist. The general rule is the heavier the projectile, the faster the twist. So, taking your 55gr .223 cal bullet as an example, you can get by with a 1 in 12 twist. But for a 62gr .223 the twist should be something like 1 in 9. The extreme long range poople gun shooters use 75gr bullets, which are too long for the magazine and a 1 in 8 twist.

For AFVs, I know nothing about main gun ballistics. What is the twist on the NATO standard 105mm gun, and what is the weight of the "average" projectile? Maybe there are some ratios to play with.
