The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

And just what kind of tank would that be that the Danish Army uses? Looks like the shape of a US tank but I'm not sure.

Disease of painting tank pink has varied and seems to be infectious... We had a pink IS-2M in Prague (which is at the gate of Lešany tank museum now) now I can see an M-24 Chaffee deeply in the similar s..t.

That's actually a new camoflage pattern. A variation on the 'Berlin Brigade' Pattern. It provides the sharp edged areas common in an urban environment combined with a last ditch psychological defense.

When the enemy finally identifies the object from the background their first reactoion is an automatic 'WHAT THE F%$K???' psychological reaction. This reaction is deepseated in the Human brain and hard to train out of the system, similar to yelling when you hit your finger with a hammer. The initial reaction is 'That can't be a tank, who in their right mind would do that to a tank, what the F&%K it is a tank!!' The few seconds of incredulity is followed almost invariably by a snicker and then often a full fledged belly laugh.

This gives the tank several seconds advantage in quick reaction situations and is often the difference between successfully either getting off the first round or quickly changing position to avoid the confrontation.

Hi Jeff! Hi Folks!

I agree it look US. My guess is it is a M26 Chaffee. I am sure it it retired from active duty and from the looks of the spot were it is setting, possbile a runner.

Back when there used to Hawk Missile Battalions here at Ft. Bliss, a lot of them had pink in their Merdec camouflage patterns. Surprised At first I though that was craze. Confused But after watching a number of sun rises and sun sets, I noticed that the desert has a lot of pink in it. Shocked

My 2 cents,
Sgt, Scouts Out!

That's another one of my alertness checks!

Worked lasted night, did a bunch of running around this morning. Looking a new (looking) Abrams, Bradleys, Paladins, M992 FAASV, and a lot of 1st Cavalry Troopers.

A lot of things sure have changed sense the last time I was out at the Dona Anna Base Camp area. But some things never change. Watched a trooper ground guide a Hummer along a black top road on a nice clear sunny day. Safety to the point of ............ The 4th BCT of the 1st Cav is training up for it's first deployment to Iraq. I wonder if after they get there, ground guides will still be required?

I have only had about two hours of sleep, so I am a bit brain dead (so what else is new) right now.

If you follow the interior links a while you'll find that it is, indeed, an M-24 Chafee. (San Francisco urban colour scheme?)

When I worked at NTC around 1984-85 we got in M60A3's. The sand color paint was more of a pink than sand. I always thought the painters screwed up but maybe not.....

In the old TC 5-200 Camouflage Pattern Painting, dated 28 August 1975, that pink color is listed as No. 2 Desert Sand. As far as I know, there is no match FS number for that color.

Spot Report!
