O/T could someone please explain Ebay to me?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: O/T could someone please explain Ebay to me?

Hi Guys-
Forgive the lack of armour content, however, as Ebay does figure rather largely in searches for old kits,, I believe this just may be of use to others as well as myself. What I want to know is; when doing a web search for a kit or book, I often see the following:
eBay.co.uk - Military models, Model Kits, Toys Games items at low ...
FORD TRUCK G917 GERMANY 1/35 Panzer Resin Models-PRM. 7, US $50.99, --. From Brazil. This seller accepts PayPal, 38m, Brazil ...
The presence of "FORD TRUCK G917 " leads me to believe that if I click on the above I'll find myself looking at an offer to sell this model. Far from it! What I actually see is pages and pages of kits on offer and, everytime I go through all the pages I never ever see the kit mentioned in the web title above. Is there some elementary step in this whole process that I am missing?
With thanks-

Thats the problem with using google and coming up with ebay results. The item may have been sold since google archived the link.

My recommendation is to get an Ebay account and set your preferences to tell you if one of your searches comes available (be sure to have it check item descriptions). In the interim, you could just search Ebay. Unfortunately a search for "FORD TRUCK G917" doesnt pull up anything currently being sold.

To embroider a little on Neil's reply. the seller on Ebay sets the length of time the auction runs, from one day to 10. The Google robot may have read the ad on it's last day and Google's listing would stay the same until the next time their robot revisted the site which could be days, weeks or months, so the item could be long gone. I agree with Neil, registration at Ebay is free and you can then browse to your heart's delight

Hopefully not to muddy the waters too much...

It often takes a couple of days for Google to add new pages (and therefore results) to its listings which show up when you search for something. Having said that it still doesnt show up my site Mr. Green

So if the auction is a short one, Google might well pick up an auction that is already completed.

Oops thats already been stated above I don't think I'm quite awake yet!

Once you get your eBay account up and running, run a search for whatever it is that you are looking for. Weather results turn up or not, you will see a link saying add this to my favourite searches, if you use this, ebay will send you an email when new items appear which match your searching criteria. You can havee up to 100 searches like this, just be weary....like me you could end up with 30-40 emails a day Rolling Eyes

Hope this helps

Some eBay sellers also list hidden key words in their descriptions. This is against policy, but many do it and it is hard to spot since they usually use white text (or what ever background color is on their page).

I've run across sellers who list virtually every major model manufacturer in their item description in hidden text. You won't know it's there unless you left click and drag your mouse across the lines of text. This highlights all text in blue with white lettering.

The goal is to get their auction to appear in your searches of Title & Description regardless of your choice of search keywords.

Not a direct reply to your eBay question, but if you are interested in the model, look here www.panzermodels.com.b...dexEn.html

I have one of their kits, they are quite good. I think they are using eBay to create a 'shop'.

Hope this helps.
