Where Do I find Serial Numbers on a Lingle?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Where Do I find Serial Numbers on a Lingle?

I'm thinking of running out and getting smoe new pictures of a Lingle at the local NG Armory. ANd I figured I would ask first instead of having to run back later to get numbers I missed the first time.

Here is one of the older shots. This was taken the Fall of 2001, Hence the Flag. I was actually a little nervous being there with a camers. I had the phone numbers of the folks at Aberdeen with me in case I needed someone to vouch for me Smile

Hi Bob! Hi Folks!

Everytime I needed to write down a serial number, I got it off the data plate in the driver's area. If it was stamped into the metal someplace on the out side, I didn't know it was there. Same thing with the M113s.

Sgt, Scouts Out! Smile

Mortar track M1064's, (M113 family) have the serial number stamped into the hull in the upper left front of the track as you look head on at the track. It should be around the headlight area. The stamping also appears above the rear ramp door, on the hull. I may have picture of these areas but I'd have to find them. I'm not familiar with the "Lingle" family of vehicle serial number placement. Hope this helps.

I second Roy's notion. I remember getting it from the data plate too.

I was down in the 58th Eng. Motorpool this morning photographing an old M60A3 when I saw these M113A3's. This should show where on the two I found their serial numbers. This is the number we use when doing inventories for platoon layouts. Where they are on the rear, (hull to left of ramp) is now covered by the external fuel cells. These two OPFOR tracks are T13602MU and C5205MU.
