T 12: M26 family Recovery Vehicle?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Attempting to conduct an inventory of sorts, I came upon drawings of the T12 ARV.

Massive looking thing, anyone familiar with this? Guess I need to check out the Library & Hunnicutt.

Don

Speaking of Hunnicutt, he says development was started on the T12 in 1944. The vehicle used an M26 hull topped by a new turret with a telescoping boom, and this assembly was able to rotate through 360 degrees. The vehicle was manned by six men, and retained the M26's .30 cal bow machine gun. A .50 cal MG was also mounted on the turret. Front and rear stabilizing spades were fitted, and two winches were mounted in the turret bustle. It was estimated to weigh about 90,000 lbs.

I've got the specs on the drawings, multi angle, just trying to picture it, having never seen one before.

Overal weight is 45 tons.

M26 hull with huge 'boxy' turret. Boom extends rearward beyond rear of hull. Its got a front and rear spade.

Winch capability: "90,000 lbs line pull on entire 380 feet of cable."

A monster to be sure....

Ah. There are some pics in the Pershing book. It's an impressive-looking vehicle.
