THE "tankers sidearm"...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: THE "tankers sidearm"...

Many thanks to Don and Frank (the Museum Director) for this opportunity! (I thought about making my way to a Radcliff pawn shop, but my car was too far away...)

Frank noted that the revolver was delivered with 9-12 rounds with turned rims...meaning, made smaller than normal. Speculation is that it indexed funny and was awkward to find the ejection notch easily. I noted that the chamber walls are WAY thinner than what I'm used to (in, say, a Super Blackhawk Rolling Eyes ) and the action is so-so in the smoothness department. Trigger pull is substantial, even in single action, when compared with a "tuned" gun. The other side has the two notches in the handle from a couple of bandits dispatched in Mexico.

If I look tense, it's because of that riding crop poking me in the a$$....

Understandable, but if I were to reach for one in anger, I'd have selected the Model 27... Wink

Nice wheelgun, if that's what you like. I imagine the "show" effect was more important than the actual utility of the pistol(s) he carried.

My preference is the venerable M1911A1. Not everyone's first choice, but one I know from before age 10. I can tell what it is doing (or not doing) from the way it feels in my hand, in the dark or with my eyes closed. More shots than a revolver, and no need to double-tap. And if you run out of ammo, you can always use it as a club!

(No I don't hate the M9, and I don't want to debate the relative merits. I just prefer the M1911.)

You? I understand that you would like the 1911, but I thought you lived in CA. Do they still allow individuals to own guns there (legally, I mean)? Shocked Rolling Eyes

(Disclaimer: I'm half joking about this. ONLY half! The gun laws in CA are one reason I won't ever live there.)

It ain't THAT bad...OK, there is a "drop test" hand guns must pass so low production number guns sometimes don't make it on the list (not cost effective) and you have to pass a silly written test that a dumbkopf could ace. And I had to switch out the evil "flash suppressor" with the dreaded bayonet lug (I don't even own a bayonet) for a "muzzle brake" on an M1A if I want to be seen in public with it (you know, because of all those horrendous bayonet mass murders you hear so much about).

Other than that, it ain't no thang....

...and I'm a dedicated .45ACP guy...but don't like chasing all that brass at the ranges so a wheelgun is nice for target shooting.
