Is this stuff a good idea!

I am looking at a link on your main forum page for a FW-190 squadron.

redwulf.de/

Really across the whole hobbyist field I am starting to get uncomfortable with the amount of interest in Third Reich militaria, which I do not regard as entirely benign. Frankly I believe things were better about two to three decades ago when whilst e.g. there was not as much specialist materiel for e.g. AFV modelers in terms of add on detail sets for kits and many of the kits themselves were often not of a very high standard, modelers seemed to be much more grounded as to the nature of the conflict during World War 2 in which such equipement was used, where as today we have e.g sophiscated combat flight simulator games and ultra detailed scale model kits, really I doubt if many of the people who seem so interested in the Third Reich equipement really understand what was the purpose behind the Third Reich military machine and worse I fear some of them do understand and think it was [ and is a ] good idea.

Best and Warm Regards

Hiya Adrian and welcome to Com Central...

At CC, we take all this as a hobby and fun comes into play here (Love puns..:D).

We fly planes or do groundpounder games based on the 'fun factor' built into the games and don't take the 'sides' seriously. Wink

thanx I know where you are coming from and it is a fair comment you make, but....

the FW-190 Squaron has this on a posting by their site admin

"Better to die as a Wulf then to live like a dog"

really I think when somebody starts putting an item like that up, when flying in a re-enactment of a World War 2 under Nazi Luftwaffe colours one is entering questionable waters.

I still think the statement is in context of the game and not the actual real meaning behind WW2.

I doubt seriously if anybody on CC's forums is 'living in this mode' and if they were, it would show in their posts and get them banned for promoting this kind of propaganda.

As stated in the other post, this is done in the context of gaming fun, not taken seriously.

Another difficulty is that the FW-190 squadron is posting the European Union flag alongside the names of several of its members. Whilst I would make no criticism of the FW-190 squadron for doing that in the sense they are probably just people who like flying sim aircraft, there are "issues" involved in doing that, in that I was told personally by a senior member of a party in the European Union parliament that the European Union needs to form its own military force to fight a War against the USA. And if you check out the reaction of the European Union to the 9/11 attack on New York City and the aftermath, you would not find any surprize why a European politician would say what he said to me about the Europe Union going to War against the USA. I can tell you, if things carry on at the moment as they are in Europe: the United Kingdom, Ireland and Denmark will be out of the European Union in 10 years and within twenty years France [ as leader of the European Union ] will be a sharia state [ with the French nuclear force placed at the disposal of International Islamist Jihad ] and fully aligned [ along with the rest of the members of the European Union ] with the sort of Fascist Islamists responsible for the 9/11 Twin Towers mass murder.

Best and Warm Regards

concerning

"Better to die as a Wulf then to live like a dog"

You are probably right Shadow_Bshwackr but frankly to have a tagline like that when flying in the colours of the Third Reich is just plain crass and offensive and presumably if these guys put a fraction of the thought in to the "morality" [ or more accurately the absolute evil ] of the Nazi regime as they no doubt have in developing their flying tactics, they never would have had a comment like that on their site.

Sir, you're riding very close to the political aspects and in direct violation of policy concerning this and similar issues.

The "Better to die as a Wulf to live like a dog" statement is one made in reference to the Folke Wulf aircraft, a simulated plane in the games we play and not meant to be a 'statement' into the actual meaning behind the aircraft or what it stood for in real life.

In no part of the games we play are statements refrerring to or claiming to be real world political issues.

As far as the site in question not thinking of the morality of it's statement, that could be very true, but in my belief, was done under 'fun gaming' intentions and not to make a political statement.

That's a fair comment and I am not going to continue this thread for the reason I think you have made a fair and reasonable response and are aware of the issues involved.
