A few pictures from APG - LT-35, M4A2 "Firefly," S-35 & KV-1
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Weather wasnt exactly too great today. Seemed to get better, then we (my friend & I) went out to take pictures it started coming down again. Of course it cleared again as we were leaving.

The pictures in the rain are obvious... Hopefully I'll get another chance to get up there again in the next month or so...

Czech LT-35 in German colors in the museum parking lot. Staff said it may be repainted again in Czech colors.

The Somua S-35 just came out of refurb, looks pretty good. These were taken as the rain started letting up.

KV-1C, also recently out of refurb. Lots of rain...

M4A2 Sherman with a Firefly turret. Lots & lots of rain..

Is that one of the M3 Scout cars behind the Firefly?

And I'm going to be lobbying Ed to change the markings on the LT-35.
They were also used by Roumania. I would like to see some new markings represented in the collection and if we can get authentic Roumanian or Czech markings I'd really like it.

Did you happen to ask anybody about when or if they plan on working on the Elefante? Or how about when the Tiger I is expected to come back?

Why repaint something that in good shape when so much else needs work (refering the the Czech tank here)?

My parents live in Delaware - will be visiting them later this year, but I don't know if they could stand me making another trip to the Proving Ground.

Thanks - great pics.

The elefante is a real sore point. They almost burnt out a couple HEMTT ( I think that is the proper name for the modern tank transporters) the last time they tried to load it. The feeling is they need to get two large cranes to lift it and let the transporter roll under it then lower it. The thing is it rolls very well but the road next to the railhead isn't sturdy enough to take the weight. So it continues to sit at the railhead.

The Somua looks great!

It along with the LT and KV look almost like they're in running condition. I assume they aren't, though?

No, generally the "restorations" are cosmetic only. No money & no requirement to have them as runners. Keep in mind most NASM aircraft restorations are the same way.

Them Army boys need to learn to think outside the box. I work at a chemical plant where we have some heavy construction going on. There are companies that specialize in moving large, heavy loads that could move the Elefante without breaking a sweat - probably wouldn't take them more the 4 hours to load it out and move it. There are transporters designed to distribute the loads and give a low ground pressure (lots of wheels, lots of 'em) so could move it down the road with no problem. These transporters can also turn on a dime. They're pretty nifty.

With as much industry up the the North East, there's bound to be someone up there that can do this.

That is why I said it is a sore subject. Yes there are companies to move heavy loads. The problem is MONEY

The Somua & Panzer 35(t) look great - especially the 35(t). I'd leave it in panzer gray.
