105mm practice rounds-- any pics?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Shawn,
If you haven't already, you can go to the "photo gallery" (menu at left under "community") and "create album" to which you can then post pics. You can link those pics to forums on this site (but not elsewhere...bandwidth, ya' know....) using the "picture" icon in the message tools above the text area when you post.

Shawn

The 3-piece 'donut' is from the 105mm training 'Sabot' round. Those are the Sabot 'pedals'.

The white plastic pieces are the retaining bands that hold the projectile together.

The thin blue metal shards are fron the 105mm training Heat round.

Hope that helps
Don

Shawn,
The petals are from an M724 APDS-T, not sure if it's A1 but they are both very similar. Very easy to load those rounds. The M490 looks like the 490A1 or A2, can't remember which is correct. That's if you didn't find any tail fins. I'm sure Dontos can remember the lousy performence of those slugs when they stopped using the fin assembly to save money. I've seen them travel side ways through a target and leave a real pretty silhoutte.

thanks everyone. joe d the only fins i found were for a pop flare.
i didnt do alot of digging around, what i found was easily seen on the surface, i didnt see any projectiles that had fins (well, i did dig some shrapnel out of a tree). i was taking part in an arty competition, and i looked around quite a while to find our projectiles.
we had a few in the comp that had printed keyholes on the board. had to look close to see if they had two rounds that were touching or had a tumbler that keyholed.
