OT (sort of): Hindsight sucks!
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Oh it hurts ...

Everytime I'm confronted with the fact that the StG44 assault rifle was supposed to replace the MG34 as secondary armament on some later development WW2 German tanks it hits me like a ton of bricks ... *ouch*.

In 1993 I was offered to buy 2 deactivated (old spec) full kit and close to mint MP44's, well one was marked MP44 and one was marked StG44, for 550£ GBP ... yes you read it right 550! They were selling for 300 a piece but I was offered a 50£ discount if I took both. Need I say I didn't buy them.

They sell for at least 1500£ GBP a piece these days ...

Hindsight sucks.
Rik

Hi Rik, I know how you feel. I had the chance to get a mint British sniping rifle (L1 something-or-other) c/w case, optics, etc. for under $1000.00 Cdn. back in the 70's. It would have been 'grandfathered' under current legislation, but, I guess I saved twice the purchase price in ammo for it as I don't reload. I should dig out some old "Guns and Ammo' magazine ads from the 60's & post them, no way was my Dad going to foot the bill & my newspaper route paycheck wasn't going to cover a $50.00 'Lee-Enfield original Jungle Carbine'!

Cheers, (tearily) Dave

The price of some guns will never go down. The L42A1 UK sniper rifle is a rare bird in civilian hands in Canada. The No.4(T) is going nowhere but up. I have a Canadian marked 1945 British T rifle which is in too nice a condition to shoot.

The price of a deactivated gun in Canada is on par with Converted Autos and Full Autos. Fewer and fewer guys have the right letters on the back of their Possession Acquisition Licence, so the discouraging option to own something off the really neat list is to grind and weld. The real bummer is the fed's decided to cancel all transport permits to firing ranges, so the CA and FA guns are fulltime locker queens.

Getting to AFVs, there was a posting on a Lee Enfield forum that a BSA No.4(T) with full accessories was stolen from this year's Beltring event.

Unfortunately, you had your reasons at the time to pass the deal up. Decisions have to be made. I had a unaltered 1941 Johnson rifle in great shape on lay-away about 15 years or so ago for $500 and could not come up with the money to pay for it. It's probably worth five times that amount now... The one thing I truly regret is selling my AR-15 when California passed the Assault Rifle Ban - even though I got five times what I paid for it.

I seriously doubt that anyone posting here is going to shoot up a high-school! Can't understand, as long as I register it, why can't I own it? From SS belt-buckle gun to '88' No, I don't own either
