Post subject: C-141 Starlifter

Hi Folks!

I came acrossed an article in Focus FAA, July 5, 2006, about the C-141.

After 43 years of service, was retired on May 6 in Ohio.

First jet aircraft designed to meet military standards as both a troop carrier and cargo carrier.

First military aircraft developed with a requirement for FAA type certification in the contract.

President John F. Kennedy's first offical act after his inauguration was to order the develpment of an all-jet transport...the Lockheed's C-141 was the result.

It set several world speed records when it was first developed.

Makes me feel a little old, at 43 years, that bird is younger than me.

The C-141 can still live on in FS thanks to Mike Stone. You can download it at www.pmstone.com. Transload Airlines also has a few paints available at www.transloadairlines.com. Go to the Air Force division fleet page.
I would venture to guess some more textures for this plane can be found at www.gjsmith.net. Smile

I was at Ft Eustis this past March / April for a Transportation School course where we learned to load military aircraft amoung other types of transport. What you're looking at is the aircraft "mock-ups" used for training. The first picture from left to right is C5, C141, and C130. The interior shot is of the C130 rollers. The last picture from left to right is C130, C141, and C17. The C141 wasn't used any more because we were told that it wasn't used for cargo anymore. I did some research after that and found that only 20, C141's (all C models) were still listed as flying in the AF inventory but that they were all with the AFReserve stationed at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio, and March Air Reserve Base, CA. Possibly this is the last of those 20? I found that info at; www.af.mil/factsheets.
