....and for those of you who've "seen" it, this is the view from the control tower down on where the UH-1 with the two surly guys and Bob Hope and Les Brown are cavorting...forward of the parked aircraft in the picture.

We could get killer framerates with this, but it wouldn't be very inner'estin' Rolling Eyes

Update:
"Dobro" over at HC has agreed to take a look at it (but said the hyperlink wasn't working...did something change? Several others got it that way. If someone could check, Stoopy...I'd be e'er so grateful). I'll try to email it to him, but it's close to our limit on filesize.

This will be very helpful because he's very insightful regarding scenery and files like this, so we'll see what he suggests. That'll make seven testers, plus myself to have eyeballed it and rendered verdicts.

BTW, the "real world" Mean Elevation Above Sea Level for the runway is 49'. The 53' we see is the influence of the mesh. Four feet ain't bad. I forgot the stock scenery elevation, but it's quite a bit less. This airport had to close for a while after the floods of 1999.

I have emailed Tom about runway/taxiway lights. I'm leaving runway lights in, even if incorrect for the period.

Link hasn't changed, could be the server was temprarily unavailble (try again) and also, check to make ure that the link you sent him has the colon after the "http" at the beginning. Sometimes, when copying from or editing PM's, the software here seems to drop that and the link won't work.

Should be "http"-colon-slash-slash etc etc

So, did you make a flat out rip down the runway? What'd ya' top out at? Laughing

Notice how your altitude changed when you got it the car? That's why for elevation testing, I specified the stock Bell 206...altitude is craft dependent, I found. You are sitting lower in the Fazzaz. And yellow is totally unacceptable...unless you're the Belgian team, and you ain't. Wink

Also, that's one rev back on Phu Bai. The newer one dumped those flashy hangars and downsized the camp...it did improve frames...you need to upgrade...it's on the server. Check your time stamps.

Nice car, though!

At the start RWY 9

www.com-central.net/us.../Enzo1.jpg

At the end RWY27 265 KIAS

www.com-central.net/us.../Enzo2.jpg

WAS FUN !!! Laughing

alltough noticed that when driving around over the platforms and taxiways there is a constant altitude difference of 0.3 ft all over the place, a bit of a wobble you get driving there Laughing

That's just your tires expanding under centrifugal force as you speed up. Wink

(I've never seen M&H Racemasters on a Fazzaz before, but it's a good look)

Ascout, all AFCAD effects is just the runway, taxiway surfaces, parking ramps, and lights. Helipads can also be placed with it and so can parking positions and designated start locations. It doesn't effect any addon scenery, so it is compatable with Airport, FSSC, EZ Scenery and RWY 12 addons.

Hmmm, could be, but shouldn't be...but obviously is. I won't get an opportunity to check until a little later tonite, dangit. Will do, tho.

Post subject: Re: "Phu Bai Redux" is ready for testing....

OK, I just did an experiment by saving as another file.

First, the exclusion area is setable, and it was set pretty tight in to the airbase...I don't know why autogen dies so far out. I even tightened it up more in my experiment to JUST outside the barracks on north side, and maybe 200 meters out on south side (because stuff goes out further) and it made no difference.

I had noticed that I had the exclusion elevation wrong (98') but corrected it to 48.4' in my experiment...made no difference (but it might to Wingnut). The mesh on/off altitude for the field is set at 48.4', but as you know, we all record ~53'(in the Bell 206...I think that's normal for the aircraft height). With mesh off, scenery off..(back COMPLETELY to stock scene) the elevation of the runway is about 32'. I also noted I didn't move the runway as much as I thought.

With the new settings and tight exclusion zone, I still find that the south side and even south side plus Hill 180 gives very smooth frames. But the north side of the field, even by itself, is killing me. I have no idea why that should be other than density of stuff. But the south side is pretty busy too, what with the radio station, the road, Hill 180, and that terminal.

I'm flummoxed! What is killing frames on the north side? Where does all the autogen go with a tight exclusion zone? Why did Tom Cruise leave Nicole for Katie?

I be's confused.....

Chief, I've just tinkered up an AFCAD file for Phu Bai Redux, just to get the starting position on the RWY's

it's small

toss it in :Flight Simulator 9/Addon Scenery/scenery

lemme know what you think of it and that applies for the rest of the gang too Laughing Wink

get it here => www.com-central.net/us...2_VVPB.bgl

Worked like a charm, Fled. Thanks!

Where should this be put in the package? Scenery or main Phu_Bai_Redux folder?

Oh, further to my "experiment above"....all was not gravy....I found that some taxiways faded beneath me when taxiing.

Post subject: Re: "Phu Bai Redux" is ready for testing....

please put it in \Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\scenery

you will notice that when selecting Phubai the RWY's will now be stated as 27c and 9c as in your file also it will be called Phu Bai Redux after selection

I've set the alt at 48,4 feet as you stated so that should, hopefully cure another anomaly as well I made the Approns and taxiways also within the file, I could try a lil trick and use it for the roads as well, see how that works out Laughing

Post subject: Re: "Phu Bai Redux" is ready for testing....

OK, I couldn't resist it Laughing

Tinkered around a wee bit more and found some other options

refined the start position on the RWY's
resized the RWY
added PAPI on both ends for testing purposes !
added edge light for the TW and Platforms for testing purposes !

So when you have installed the previous AFCAD file I've tinkered up act as follows:

1. goto => Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\Scenery and delete AF2_VVPB.bgl

2. goto => Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\Asia\scenery and search for AP976260.bgl rename that to AP976260.org_bgl, this should deactivate the stock fs9 airfield.

3. toss this file into => Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\Phu_Bai_Redux\scenery

restart fs9 and it will tell you it is rebuilding the scenery data, select VVPB, or search for Phu Bai Redux, chose your favourite TO end of the RWY and have a go at it, just for testing purposes I've added a PAPI on both end's, so you can get the feel for the right angle of attack / approach of the field Wink and also blue edge lights for the TW and patforms, as said FOR TESTING ONLY !!

they will be ommited in the final version, as according to info they are / where not present.

What is still an open point is the parking spots, I can isert 'm wherever one wants them, but I would like, when possible, some info on that.

have fun and let us know of your exploits Laughing
