We found these at the west side of post, at 1st Cav Brigade HQ's. Neither of them is listed on Joe Baughers site. My dad is collecting all the serial here and then sending them to Joe for updating his list. Hope you like these Doug

Thanks, Jeffrey(s)....those are some interesting birds!

That Cobra was equipped with FLIR, and those are TOW missile launchers under the weapons pylons with the 2.75" FFAR tubes. This was an early "tank-hunter" (*shudder*)!

It also has the "toilet bowl" or "sugar scoop" exhaust extension to give less of an IR signature for heat-seeking missiles.

Speaking of some interesting finds, I just found this at the Texas Tech University Vietnam Project (which is an open collection, and in TEXAS, so I think a road trip is in order for you guys...).

Go to this page and look at upper right for "featured collection" and pass yer' mouse over the one for Chuck Carlock. Hold it there. Then view the FOUR completely restored Vietnam helicopters he donated (along with tons of other stuff) to the project/museum. Great hi res photos...and some numbers for you guys to run down at Joe Baughers.

WARNING!: Once you start exploring the online collection and learn to navigate it, you might be trapped at the keyboard for days. Wink

My god, that guy must be a millionaire to be able to restore 4 helicopters like that! How did you stumble across this site?

Jeff,
I'd say he did a little better than being a mere millionaire!

The Texas Tech (Lubbock) Vietnam Project has been jointly supported by and host to several units I've had contact with...in particular our sister Troop and neighbors at Camp Eagle, B Troop, 2/17th Cav., 101st Abn. They've pretty much emerged as the Vietnam repository of memoribilia, artifacts, and literature for the war with university affiliation. That the collection is made available on-line where possible and directly for researchers is a huge plus. This stuff is not languishing in dark vaults inaccessable to the general public.
