Post subject: CFS1 Game Hosting???

Hi Folks:

New to Com-Central.

I've heard that there is a host for CFS1 somewhere in/on Com-Central. Can anyone tell me more?

I used to play super-regularly on The Zone and REALLY miss it.

For the last month or two a few buddies have been playing IP games but it is very hit and miss trying to organize people to be in the right place at the right time.

All the best for now.

Lee

Hi Lee,
ltns!

It is true, there was a game hosted on CC this weekend as a test.

I asked Bushy about it a while ago, as I'm still interested in CFS1, and got my squad (EURO) involved to help see if it would provide a venue for us and maybe others in future.

The game ran smoothly enough (some slight lag caused, I think, by one of our members bad connex's), but there was a slight problem, in that; It's not like the Zone where there are a number of rooms which can be set-up and configured at any time. To keep a game open here, you need to set it up in advance and have a 'drone' aircraft present in the game. This means settings need to be adjusted by a server admin or the game goes on and on with no end in sight, or finishes prematurely and needs to be reconfigured. It also means that it's possible to lock onto the drone as you cycle targets (if you've travelled far enough). After Fled (who was kind enough to spare us a lot of his time..., and wings... heheheh) had to leave us late into the night, we switched to an IP game which we found more versatile and practical for our purposes.

This was only a preliminary test and I haven't even reported this to Bushy yet, so I don't know if there's any other fixes we can apply.

If we are unable to find a solution here, there are other areas being investigated as well. Make sure I can contact you and I shall do so when a suitable solution has been found. I do not believe that a Zone-like environment will ever be possible for CFS1 again as there simply isn't enough regular interest. Most likely it will be a preset date and time for a meeting of like-minded individuals. Times may be awkward as different time-zones are accomodated.

In the meantime, I would advise against using GameSpy as an alternative. I have spoken to loads of people who say it's fine but it installed NINE spyware programmes onto my machine which it took me almost a day to get rid of. I don't believe anyone who thinks they are immune to these actually is and, more likely, does not have their protection set up properly and is unable to detect them.
There is also still the facility to play on the Hyperlobby, provided you reset the installed HyperLobby config. files to allow you to see the 'hidden' CFS rooms (there is a thread about this in the CFS1 section of ComCentral).

Thanks for the info update Shades.

I'm addicted to playing CFS1 and can't begin to think of how many hundreds if not thousands of hours I've palayed the game on-line. Bought CFS 2 & 3 the moment they became available but was disappointed .... good old CFS1 has the best on-line play in my opinion. The others have improved graphics but for some reason never grabbed me.

CFS3 was never able to run properly on my computer despite all kinds of "fixes & tweaks" recommended on various forums. But I did enjoy the ground strike feature ... taking out trains was a real hoot.

Please keep me in the picture. Email is chnrfm @ mts.net

I tried Gamespy and had the same experience with spyware. Of all the times I looked there for someone playing, I only hity it lucky once and played against 2 others ... what a bust.

All the best for now.

no worries m8.
I did the same (with CFS2, and IL2; Sturmovik, FB, AEP, and PF) and came out with the same opinions.
Nothing sorted yet but now getting a few 'cold-turkeys' with the same requirements.
Maybe Hyper-lobby could be our answer.
Will keep you posted.
