as far as aircraft reflections and that sorta thing it's the envmap.bmp that controls it Stoopy.

Did you shut off fs9 completely before switching the bmp ??

at this moment I'm at the office , but when I get home later on today I'll do some diggin and send you a few "items" you can tinker around with to yer liking.

Thanks Fled - yessir, FS9 was not running when I made the switch. I've even copied the other envmap.bmp from the stock folder over to the Envi Pack, my reflections are more stock but the colors are still "pumped up". You know I have that little tool to switches from EnviPack to Stock and back at will, so I've been careful about it.

Well, anyway, maybe we'll figure it out, maybe not.

- JG300-Stoopy
I don't know what file it is that controls it, but one thing the Envi Pack does is increase - greatly - the luminence (brightness, if you will) of the colors. They are much brighter and "over driven" than in real life. While this looks great for some bare-metal aircraft, the effect on painted aircraft, especially white paint, is very very pronounced, to the point I turn the Envi Pack off if I want to fly a white or painted plane for a lengthy time or take screenshots of one.

I found the same thing. I liked the scenery effect but I felt the aircraft looked a little washed out.

After quite a few tests I found the files which effect the luminosity of the aircraft and replaced those files with the stock ones...

It's all here in a previous thread

Wolter, I just made a short test on all three versions and, contrarily to my first opinion, I'm not so sure anymore if I prefer the L (green) or the D (blue) one.

Frankly, I find the merged option a bit excessive - it might be nice to see brownish reflections close to the shores - the mirroring of mountains or just pollution? - but then it seems to me these reflections look too much fragmented, and the overall impression I get is that it's somehow overcharged.

Instead, the green shades look not so regular and flat as I thought at first, and their changing pitch is really fine, truly attractive. The blueish version is somehow more traditional and because of this keeps its own appeal, but in the end I'm not able to tell which is the better, if there's a better one.

So, while I discarded the merged files, I'm keeping both of the other two, because at this point it's rather a matter of state of mind... changing seas like clothes, mmm, funny idea! Mr. Green

I'll go further on, suggesting you to choose the sea textures according to your plane's livery - best matches could get extra points in the screenshot competition Wink

Marco

P.S.: It is a worldwide assumption that white socks are out of fashion and a clear mark of boorishness; this is why, when I wear socks - which happens quite rarely, as I get rid of them every time I can - they're are exclusively white Razz

PP.SS.:

Regarding to the "hardware rendered lights" slider in the options/display/hardware settings, I strongly endorse Fled's suggestion - today we've been testing together the effect on the whitewashed Turbo Beaver, and it that case it didn't solve but at least reduced the problem a bit.

On other planes, where reflections on the surface are normally visible, the effect is even better, so that this is one of those cases when pushing ahead the slider doesn't improve the visual, but quite the opposite - inversely proportional, is this the expression?

Mr. Green

As we tested some this afternoon Marco the idea got into my head that I could adapt something more on the "waterfront" so stay tuned for some more testing Laughing

the one I'm cooking up now isn't to blue and either to green Laughing

inverted proportional engineering ............. Laughing that what we are doing, I think Laughing
