Armor at Selfridge Air National Guard Base
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Looks like that rude jerk in North Carolina is winning his 'mis-information' campaign. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I ran into a guy at the last model club meeting who likes M113s and he was trying to tell me 'the Army' had offically named the M113 after Gen. G. When I asked him how he had learned that, he said he had ran acrossed postings on the internet where people were calling it that. He was thinking that sense people were using that name, then 'the Army' must have offically named it. Sad Sad Sad Sad

Sgt, Scouts Out!

The Air NG display committee can call it anything they want, but the Army never, lemme' repeat that....never referred to nor condoned reference to it, as such.

So...who's gonna' shinney up there with a small brush and some matching paint to correct this travesty? Wink

armyjunk2, can you tell me where on base (near what building) this display is located? I'd like to include it in the USA AFV Register.

I've been in the Army (Infantry) 24 years, of which 12 were either mechanized or armor. I have been around M113 family of vehicles quite a bit and have NEVER heard them referred to as "Gavins", not even jokingly. It is NOT an official military / Army name. Who created this silly rumor? and what would be the basis?

Long story, Jeff. Google for "Mike Sparks" (or "Sparky") and "Gavin". Take steps to protect your keyboard first. Wink

Neil, no sorry i can't, but both are at the Air Museum on Base, no one could miss that. They have about 20 airplanes in the field and the AFV are at the same museum. Where do i send updates to the AFV lists? Interesting story on the "Gavin" i had never heard that term either, but then again i know almost noyhing about M113's

Take a look at the top of the board for V2.2 of the register (V2.3 is in the works).

you were just at SANG this past summer armyjunk2?
these are very recent additions to the museum. it is located near the Hall Road entrance, north side of the base. as you say, if you came across Hall Rd you will see the runway and the museum for sure.

AJ2, did they have the winged thingys repainted or anything? they have had the "distressed" look for quite some time...

i would be happy to correct the travesty. if i am caught what alias should i use?

Do they have any F105 Thunderchiefs? I have a LOVE of these huge jet fighters after finding and researching one in the desert of Ft. Irwin.
