Post subject: [Solved] FSX Standard Install issue

~S~All,

Bought FSX Std. at Walmart this morning. They had three boxes.

Installed and tried to run and got a popup window saying I needed MSXML 4 SP2. Dl'ed that from MS and installed it.

Reinstalled the sim and the same thing happened again.

Any ideas?????

I'll try again this evening.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Ken

What's the hardware specs of your machine?

There were problems running SP2 on some AMD64 machines but I thought they were sorted out now.
There're still some problems on certain laptops.

If that's not it, try a rollback to before you installed either. Then install SP2, and then FS-X.

Of course, it could just be SP2 being obstinate and another try could cure all.
(A bit of M$ code not working properly first time around? Shurely shome mishtake!?!?!?)

No worries,
Nothing else stands out as a potential problem in that kit, so I hope it works.

Shades,

No luck.

Found msxml4.dll (SP2) in Windows\System32\ and copy/pasted that into the freshly installed FSX main folder (like it is in FS9). That didn't help as I got the same popup window as before.

I'll try again tomorrow when I'm rested.

Off to a bad start.

Regards,
Ken

Might wanna ask in my other forum m8.
They had a few similar questions on FS-X.

www.BuildYourOwn.Org.UK/Forums
Put it in the 'other software' section.

Shades,

Tried your "BuildYourOwn" link and got a cannot find message. Then tried variations on the address without any luck. Did get one "coming soon" message from register.com.

I'll try again later.

Ken

~S~All,

Spin45 from Netwings directed me to the solution. The version of msxml4.dll in my machine needed updating. Got the update online from MS and the sim loaded.

Thanks for all of your help.

Ken
