Boxer for the Netherlands army
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Just on the news that the Dutch cabinet decided to buy 200 Boxers.

IIRC these will come in the command, medical and technical (BDR) variant and replace the YPRs which are acting in this role.

Some people from our battalion tested also the medical variant of the CV90 in Sweden so if the tankbattalion(s) get the medical variant of the CV90 or a medical variant of the Boxer I don't know.

I thought they pulled out of the program a couple years ago...

The Netherlands considered pulling out for a while, due to the unit price increase after the UK withdrew - but recently decided to stay with it.

During a demonstration with a leopard for subcontractors I spoke with someone from the company that made the electrical wiring of the Boxers. He told me that the goverment wanted to go on with the project if the price went down for several percent.

It seems that they accomplished that. About delivery I don't know yet, I will check the military publications next monday.

Regards,
Lesley

200 Boxer wheeled AFVs are bought for €624 million. The Boxer is to replace the M-577 and part of the YPR-765 tracked AFV fleet. It is meant for supporting tasks, such as medevac, cargo, engineers and command & control. The first Boxers will come into use with the RNLA from 2011 onward.

The Boxer's purchase was no doubt inspired by the success of the Canadian LAVIII's in Afghanistan. These are the heaviest AFVs in the South, and seem to be both bullet magnets and good bullet deflectors.

As for the modular concept of the Boxer, I am a bit surprised. The link shows a drawing with a box structure that slips into the rear chassis <<http://www.army-technology.com/projects/mrav/mrav5.html >> . I wonder how many extra pods will be produced. The design might be modular, but switching requires an spare sitting, waiting for a job. How would these pods be echeloned - on pallets, or pooled?
