Within easy reach?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Looks like I'll be at West Point for a few days in February - whats within easy reach thats worth going to see vehicle-wise? By within easy reach I mean an hours drive or less not statewide like some of you yanks think....

This is what I use Yahoo Maps for...

Short answer: It looks like the best place to go is the Military Museum of Southern New England in Danbury CT. Frankly, there's not been a lot of good photo reports out of that museum and it seems to have an interesting & varied collection, albeit not necessarily all in good condition. Just be aware that you are in some of the heaviest traffic area in the U.S. so 50 miles can be well over an hour depending on tiime of day/weather (February is possibly the worst time for winter weather driving in the U.S. How are you at driving in heavy traffic in slush and snow :-))

To bad you can't come further south while you are here and hit Aberdeen but that is probably 3-4 hours of highway driving.

Thanks for the suggestions! As for the weather I'll get some 'kay-dett' to drive me on the pretext that its historical research.

Just don't think I'll have the time to get to Aberdeen unfortunately as I am running on a tight schedule.

BTW how do you get copies of the images in Aberdeens library?

LOL... Go there and take scans or pictures... Their staff is way too small to accomodate external requests, but they can be pretty happy to let you do research (especially if they know you) yourself.

Last time I took lots of pictures out of each file, originally intending them just for ID purposes - but they came out pretty well...
