Within easy reach?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

This is what I use Yahoo Maps for...

Short answer: It looks like the best place to go is the Military Museum of Southern New England in Danbury CT. Frankly, there's not been a lot of good photo reports out of that museum and it seems to have an interesting & varied collection, albeit not necessarily all in good condition. But I'd say if you go one place, go there!: www.usmilitarymuseum.org/

Long answer to follow...

Long answer:

Courtlandt Manor (M42 Duster, M48 Patton): 13 miles
Continental Village (M48 Patton): 14 miles
Carmel (M60A3): 29 miles
Airmont (M3A1 Stuart): 32 miles
Franklin Lakes, NJ (M551 Sheridan): 39 miles
Elmwood Park, NJ (M56 Scorpion): 42 miles
Teaneck, NJ (M42 Duster, M728): 43 miles
Garfield, NJ (M114): 44 miles
Danbury, CT (Military Museum of Southern New England): 45 miles
Paterson, NJ (2 M60s & M113): 45 miles
Clifton, NJ (M60): 48 miles
Little Falls, NJ (M5 Stuart): 48 miles
Montville, NJ (M60): 51 miles
Denville, NJ (M60A3): 58 miles
West Orange, NJ (M60A3, M75): 59 miles
Morristown, NJ (M52): 62 miles
Dover, NJ (M60): 67 miles
Staten Island (M60A3, private M50A1 Ontos): 74 miles
Wolcott, CT (M4A3E8 Sherman): 78 miles
Watchung, NJ (M114): 78 miles
Canaan, CT (M41A3 Walker Bulldog): 79 miles
Spotswood, NJ (M75): 85 miles
Dunnellen, NJ (M5A1 Stuart): 86 miles
Flemington, NJ (M4A3E8 Sherman, M60A3): 98 miles
Watervliet Arsenal (M47 or M48 Patton; M4 Sherman?): 106 miles

Again, my recommendation would be Danbury. But you might also want to plot these on a map to see what else might be on the way...

Just be aware that you are in some of the heaviest traffic area in the U.S. so 50 miles can be well over an hour depending on tiime of day/weather (February is possibly the worst time for winter weather driving in the U.S. How are you at driving in heavy traffic in slush and snow :-))

To bad you can't come further south while you are here and hit Aberdeen but that is probably 3-4 hours of highway driving.

Thanks for the suggestions! As for the weather I'll get some 'kay-dett' to drive me on the pretext that its historical research.

Just don't think I'll have the time to get to Aberdeen unfortunately as I am running on a tight schedule.

BTW how do you get copies of the images in Aberdeens library?

Cool

LOL... Go there and take scans or pictures... Their staff is way too small to accomodate external requests, but they can be pretty happy to let you do research (especially if they know you) yourself.

Last time I took lots of pictures out of each file, originally intending them just for ID purposes - but they came out pretty well...
