how unusual??
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Dennis,
being a collector of US infantry equipment, I have to say that this picture is very interesting,
in one han concerning the paint sheme of the sherman,
and in the other hand concerning the equipment of this US soldier... Notice the unusual water-cooled Browning M1917 Machinegun, the Bucke Boots and the pick...

It looks like a British Sherman. I've seen similar colors schemes on British Shermans in Italy. It also has a triangle on the turret. That was also used by the British.

Hi Folks!

That Sherman has a Crusader III type storage box on the rear of the turret.

I wonder where the rest of the heavy machine gun team is?

Very interesting paint job.
Sgt, Scout Out!

The Vehicle is a Sherman III (M4A2) of the Royal Scots Greys in Italy prior to redeploying to NWE for the Invasion. This was the first documented use of the Ambush Scheme but seems to be confined to that unit. It was standard Brit and Commonwealth practice to add a stowage bin to the Sherman turret and the Crusader ones were avail and used in qty in the Med. Other pics such as this one exist:

Cheers
Al
