Post subject: STOOPY!...and all you other pickers....

Priceless. Song originally by the English Beat, variously performed by Velvet Underground and Pete Townshend in the Brixton semi-solo concert in '86 (which I have on videotape).

Been a while, here Pete explains the truely weird tuning and tackles the song for the first time in many years. "Save it for Later"

He "finds himself" at about 2:30, so be patient. Not bad for a deaf guy with tinnitis.

...and my longtime favorite (since 1971)..."Baba O'Riley": (performed this year)

Have been a big Who fan since my early teens (I know you still have me beat).

Have always thought "Baba O'reiley" would make some nice background music for a certain period video. Wink

Puh-leeze! The "Guess Who" was an insipid (by comparison) band from Winnipeg, Canada best known for "American Woman/No Sugar Tonight" and other Burton Cummings masterpieces. Rolling Eyes ...Not what you'd call a hard-rockin' band even remotely in the same league as the The Who.

Your strawberry ration card is being confiscated for one month...and you're grounded, Mister!

Yeah, they were good songs, but of a completely different genre than "The Who"...which was a seriously hard-rockin' band for about two decades.

To their credit, the Guess Who was the first Canadian band to have a number 1 hit single in the U.S. Wink

"American Woman" had little to do with my choice of mate, but living in California sure did...as did traveling extensively overseas, which expanded my potential mate pool by a couple billion. Mr. Green

Hey now....NO withholding of strawberry rations based on music choices.....unless of course it's rap, or that Rod Stewart chick....go fire up your plane anytime ya like 1Bullet!

I like the Guess Who, great band for their day and "No Sugar Tonight" is an excellent 'mood' song.

A smoke-filled room in the corner basement,
the situation must be right.... Wink

As for The Who......well I respect the time they've put in and they sure have aged a TON more gracefully than some of their contemporaries. Gotta say I've never been too much in Peter Townsend's style though, as he's more of a "strummer" than a "picker". But my rather simplistic and primitive musical tastes are wasted on the subtleties of a multi-lead-instrument band (and "Baba O'Riley" seems as much of a keyboard song as anything else).......I don't know if Pete can really do a good rendition of "Pipeline" much less "Banzai Washout" so am unable to apply any meanignful litmus test to gauge that by.....which is O.K.

Speaking of old-timey (by now) bands and guitarists, I'd say some oft-overlooked names these days are Chuck Berry (Good God GO SEE HIM now if you can.....the man is absolutely frikkin' awesome) and the guy from The Byrds, Roger McGuinn....caught him on some PBS special a while back and was completely blown away with the way he puts himself into his music.

Robin Trower is still going strong too and still my favorite of all the old names...seen him live many times, the only drawback is he's never been easy to look at but fortunately plays with his back to the crowd a lot of the time to get more feedback running through his Strat from the speaker cabinets....better go see this guy quick while he's still with us, but bring some sunglasses....he's playing smaller and smaller clubs now which is not necessarily a good thing if you end up sitting close to the stage.....

Speaking of multiple viewings, and to make up for the pic above, here's the reason why I've seen RT so many times.....he's still quite lethal....

www.youtube.com/watch?...ed&search=

Kinda cool they're helping celebrate his birthday.....I think he's like 103 now or something.......funny thing is I think he'll definitely outlive the guy behind the drums!!! Laughing

(this youtube stuff is quite cool...never thought to search for the guy there before!)

Stoopy, that was flat out awsome!!!!!!!! I thought my sub woofer was going into convulsions!! That started out like a freight train then then it started chuggin an chuggin and after that it was his axe that took the spotlight with the train still along for the ride, the only problem was that it was over too soon.thanks man that was fun.Ascout ,That is quite a diverse list of concerts.Micheal Hedges really has a guitar style all his own.I bought his Arial Boundries album back in the 80's kind of an audiofile sort of album. As for the WHO,well I got one up on ya there,I seen em three times Mr. Green

I always knew you were a man of class and taste, Dan!!!

You know, as I watch it again, it totally PISSES ME OFF how these old guys get away with pulling out all these hair-raising amazing licks while hardly moving their fingers....you ever notice that??? Young guys and the rest of us have our fingers scrambling and stumbling all over the place while these guys can do it all without barely movin'...what's up with that??!!! Laughing

Seriously, go see this guy when you can, you'll dig him! Great crowd, too, good people and good time.....lots of old school rockers and guitarists who come to pay homage to The Man.

And if you don't have it already, "Bridge of Sighs" is a most classic album and still graces the shelves of any self-respecting music store...
