Post subject: Want even more fps => .NET Framework 3.0 !

Encountered this on the VOZ site, tryed it and must admit it works ! Laughing

=>
Microsoft has released the .NET Framework 3.0, after thorough testing on my system ( I get a solid 70-80FPS to begin with on my AlienWare) I can report a 10-15% OVERALL increase of FPS. Make sure you UNINSTALL .NET Framework 1.1 after you install 3.0, don't worry it is fine and will not affect the switcher if that is what you are worried about.

>>DOWNLOAD HERE www.microsoft.com/down...laylang=en

Enjoy guys and let me know your feedback, there has been reports from people that get up to as much as 40% (!) more FPS.

Without getting too technical, basically certain streamfunctions of your computer are calculated differently also access to the pagefile system ( if set correctly ) is done differently. RAM/availability of RAM and allocation of RAM is done partly by .NET and the older 1.1 was not coping too well with this, 3.0 does it a lot better. When I look at the amount of unnecessary calls in my system comparing 1.1 to 3.0 there is a decrease of about 25%.

DISCLAIMER: I do not like Windows, I am a Linux user So for me to actually tell you about something good in Windows, it is quite shocking actually lol

Remember guys uninstall NET Framework 1.1 if that is the version you have after version 3.0 install.
Do not uninstall NET Framework 2.0!

Small adendum:

first: install the 3.0 .Net framework and reboot

second: un-install the 1.1 .Net framework and NOT the 2.0 .Net Framework !!

third: get Regvac HERE and install it

fourth: run Regvac in NOVICE mode !! (you'd be amazed what it cleans out)

fifth: DEFRAG !!

will look that yer system got a lil rocket build in somewhere (still looking haven't found it yet, the lil rocket that is Laughing )

The Regvac tool is a trail for 30 days but it will do the work Wink

Dell has one answer for Media Center when there is any problem with it. "Reload it" Fled, First I set up a restore point. Then I did the install of the 3.0 Net framework and rebooted. Then I un-installed the 1.1 Net framework and left the 2.0 Net installed. Then I got the Regvac and installed it and ran it. Then I did Defrag. FSX worked wonderfully. But, when I tried to open up Media Center to see what is on TV, I got a message that I needed v1.1.4322 Net installed for it to work.

So I tried the restore to before doing all these changes. Still no Media Center. I called Dell and after explaining the situation to the service rep, and being on hold for a long period of time, I got the answer - "Reload the OS"

So if you have Media Center on your compute I would suggest not going this route. Once before Dell told me this solution for another problem. Before I got around to reloading it, the problem cleared itself up.

I will be working on this one for a while.

Most fixes are generic, it's best to have a quick glance at the OS required before you jump in. Smile

System Requirements

* Supported Operating Systems: Longhorn (Windows Code Name) ; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Vista; Windows XP Service Pack 2

It won't work with Media Centre.

lazyeight - maybe you can get around all that by re-installing 1.1 Net framework by itself (search Google and look for microsoft's site results) and also uninstall the 3.0 net framework......beats a full reinstall!

Stoop,
I was checking the Microsoft website when your message popped up looking for the same thing. I was wondering if that would work. I guess it is worth a try.
Microsoft says I need to check with Dell since it came on my computer. I am going to do lots of looking before getting into a reinstall for sure!
Thanks for the advise. I think I will try it.

Mission Accomplished!

I did just what you said, Stoop, and it worked. I now have my Media Center back working and all my Howard 500's showing in FSX. Don't know what my fps will be but they were ok even before all this trouble, so I will just continue as before.

Post subject: Re: Want even more fps => .NET Framework 3.0 !

As always, I appreciate your suggestions and hard work to improve our FS9 and FSX. Keep up the good work. Many times it is ok to make such changes to my computer. Microsoft calls this, Windows XP Media Center so lots of times these changes apply to the Windows XP part and all works well. This time though it knocked out the Media Center.

What upsets me, is this is the second time I have had a problem with Media Center and have contacted Dell. Dell tells me how weak Media Center is and the only solution is to reinstall it and lose all my data.

Both times I have been able to correct the problem and it was not necessary to reinstall the OS. One of their support folks told me they were hardware support and not software support.

Without the help of you guys on this site, I would be having lots of troubles.

Thanks again. Keep up the good work. This is a great site!

On the plus side, re-installing it will hopefully remove all the spam Dell installed and leave you with only the stuff you actually need.
I removed 7Gb of Dellspam when I did it on my old Dell 4 years ago (Windows ME... patooey!)

It seems quite a bit of multi media software relies on net Framework 1.1 being installed.

My Vegas 6 studio won't work without it, had to re-install it.

Shocked

don't run that "fancy stuff"

just have a naked rig with OS and some applications to keep fs up and running, for the other I use the other rig Confused

Alltough what makes me curious is when I installed .net framework 3.0 on the other rig I didn't even need to un-install the 1.1 version as it had gone ..... probably the 3.0 tossed it out by itself and all is working, at least till now haven't encountered any glitches or other noticable ill effects ...........
seems that M$ works in misterious ways Rolling Eyes

I just wish I could run FS9 on Linux. But hey, you can't always get what you want. Sad But then, if you try sometimes.....you might find...... Cheers, Aad.
