M60A1 or A3? (Was M60A0s, A1s and A3s?)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi Neil! Hi Folks!

- Neil_Baumgardner

Roy, thanks. I hadnt noticed there were 2 different M60s in Clay Center (in 2 different locations none-the-less).

Are all the rest A3s?

I have finally had some time to slowly look at this group of photos. Best I can tell, most are A3s.

McCook NE, Shetton NE, and Clay Center NE are A0s.

The one at Overbook KS (bull dozer blade) is an A3. Thermal Shroud on the main gun barrel.

I am not sure about these: Naples NY, Tuscumbia AL, Chillicothe OH.

I think the one at St. Augustine Fl is an A3. The front part of the main gun barrel doesn't have a thermal shroud, but it does look like (to me anyway) like there is a shroud on the part between the mantel and the bore evac.

Hope this helps!
Sgt, Scouts Out!

The bottom two are definitely A3s. The right side blister has hinge detail for the LRF door and both have the larger doghouse of the M60A3. If you have access to Verlinden's Warmachine #3 M60A3, there are some great shots of a misidentified M60A1 RISE/Passive on page 14 & 15 where you can see the smaller, flat topped doghouse of the M60A1.

Stumbled upon a geocaching listing I missed, this one near Dungannon VA - another M60 that needs identifying, A1 or A3?

Definitely an A3, crosswind sensor visible on the turret and the thermal shroud clamp is prominent on the end of the gun tube.

That freshly painted flat OD green paint really throws one off but the thermal shroud and the wind sensor is the key....

Neat thread; thanks. If anyone's interested, there are a few more pics of the Chillicothe tank (which is in front of Unioto High School--"Home of the Shermans") here. It's also the tank in my avatar. Wink

Here are a couple of pics of the M60 at the Fort Douglas UT museum. Hope this helps with IDing it.

Is there or didn't there used to be an M551 there also? ISTR there was (I worked at the U.Med. Ctr.), but it's been a long time.

The M551 was there in 2005 when I visited the museum.
