Post subject: Terrible frames in v/c cockpit

Simply uacceptable FPS in v/c they jump takes more than a second or two to change.

I remember in Fs9 one could change this in the Fs9.cfg to accelearte the frames.
can one do the same in FSX???

...Must admit haven't studied the .cfg...

Boy ya just love to keep throwin challenges our way dontcha?? Wink

I don't recall any way to specify framerates in the CFG file other than the standard frame rate limit, which is also a slider in the display menu. It's just a cap on the upper limit. Some people say they get better frame rates setting it at "Unlimited" but I've found that sucks up all available spare CPU time (what little there is of it) and you get blurred scenery textures and other odd behavior. I keep mine at 20 which I find quite acceptable (it works for online pylon racing at 400MPH 50ft. off the deck so it's good enough for me!).

Otherwise, avoid the complex VC's with glass-panel displays, etc.....these also take a lot of CPU time and thereby, the hit on frame rates. I guess you could start with the Piper Cub which has the most basic of VC's and steam gauges, then work your way up through the other aircraft from there to find what level of complexity is beyond your system's abilities.

Also keep in mind that a patch which hopefully will address some performance problems is due out in the next 2 or 3 months so don't loose hope.

Thanks Stuppy, Indeed I'll wait and see what comes in the future. I suppose it's up to me to experiment with this FPS. In Fs9 there was a (section Frames per second=) And one could change it froom in there.

But as you say the complexity of the v/c's and glass gauges plays a roll and influences all this.

I'll just have to experiment. Pan rate is what I was looking for. Like in the ,cfg in Fs9. Just went through the FSX.cfg and can't find anything like it, I must be looking in wrong place Crying or Very sad

All those controls are still present, but the Pan_Rate setting you're thinking of (to change the speed of head turns etc) has been modified to be more versatile and is in the Cameras.cfg XML file in the same place that FSX.CFG is.

That location is typically:

C:\Documents and Settings\{Your User Name}\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

...where {Your User Name} is the name of your user account.

In Cameras.cfg look for....
PitchPanRate=
HeadingPanRate=


In each camera type section. Note seperate settings for head left-right (Heading) and up-down (Pitch). Please don't ask me what the seperate camera sections are for - the SDK documentation covers that and you can also learn by experimenting, which is always good.

THe frame rate cap is still in the cfg file which is now called, of course, fsx.CFG and is in the same place....look for:
UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=

Stoopy: Sorry I've not answered recently, I think I've got it figure out, I am simply demanding too much of my sys. to much complexity and detail on my scenery setting, I am struggling/testing/moving sliders with it until I find a resonable, acceptable rate.Now I decided to give it another go. I increased the values for pan and heading in the camera .cfg. can say you're right glass cockpits are eaters of FPS. Just got me a few weeks ago Wilcos' CX and because of its' complexity it does increase the load in my sys. to the point that it freezes Sad .
