ASSAULT BREACHER VEHICLE
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

A few observations:

What an amazingly overloaded chassis! Did I see a digital weighscale reading of over 100,000 lbs?

Is the hull a modified M1 and a sort of dummy turret versus a complete superstructure?

Mine plow looks good, but you need a crane and six guys to attach all the parts. Wouldn't it be easier to have one that is pre-assembled and the vehicle drives up to?

Dozer blade looks impressive. How is it for roadbuilding and not pushing old pickup trucks? The reason I ask, the Canadian Badger AEVs have been used extensively for combat construction tasks in Afghanistan. There is one heavy equipment operator Engineer Corporal who had three dozers killed out for underneath him by IEDs and ambushes on that same piece of roadbed.

MICLIC looks pretty impressive. (Nothing negative to say there.)

What is the effect or weapon fired at about 2 mins that projects four "stars" in front of the vehicle?

Neat pitstop concept with the landing support ship, but the ramp angle to get back on the beach looks like it might hang up in the sand easily.

The four shot weapon is the smoke grenade launchers used for cover.

All it needs is a demolition gun... Hmm...

Neil,

When I was at Anniston we had the old 165mm demolition guns from the M728's in storage there. They had removd the entire assemblies and saved them. Looks like there would be room for it on this 'thing'.

Hi Maple! Hi Folks!

- Maple_Leaf_Eh

What an amazingly overloaded chassis! Did I see a digital weighscale reading of over 100,000 lbs?

Not really. Remember the M1A2 is close to 70 tons, or 140,000 pounds. That vehicle 40,000 pounds lighter, or 20 tons.

- Maple_Leaf_Eh

Is the hull a modified M1 and a sort of dummy turret versus a complete superstructure?

Possible a surplus M1 or M1IP. The turret is modified to hold a just a TC and two MICLIC charges.

- Maple_Leaf_Eh

Mine plow looks good, but you need a crane and six guys to attach all the parts. Wouldn't it be easier to have one that is pre-assembled and the vehicle drives up to?

Yes, but I think that plow is something that has been in use for a few years and therefore is cheaper to buy rather that design a completely new type of plow.

- Maple_Leaf_Eh

Dozer blade looks impressive. How is it for roadbuilding and not pushing old pickup trucks?

My guess would be obstacle clearing and hull down firing positions sense it is a USMC developement. The Marines don't build roads, if they need a road, the Seabees are sent in to do that job.

My 2 cents.

AWESOME!!!

Some people have all the fun. Never seen this other than one photo years ago.

That plow looks real heavy!!!

I tore up a couple of idler arms on the current plow. Bet this one really has problems....

Just an observation from a former plow tanker....
