M1A1 Fuel Tank Questions
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: M1A1 Fuel Tank Questions

I know that the fuel capacity of an M1A1 is 505 gallons but can anyone tell me the individual capacity?

Also, Is there a cross-over line between the front tanks? I thought there wasn't but we filled the front left tank and it took 158 gallons according to the meter. I don't think it holds this much so the meter is bad or there is a cross-over tube????

Mark,
Yes there is, it runs across the top. If you pump fuel at a slow enough rate you can actually fill the opposite tank. That's how you can transfer from either the left or right to the rear without draining the other.
