AFVs in France
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hello,

Do somebody have a list or a beginning of list of tanks preserved in France? I would try to complete and to update it. Maybe I could arrive to a list as complete as Neil's one for the tanks in the USA.. Thanks.

Pierre, do you have a copy of Larkum's Preserved Tanks in France? It would be a very good starting point....He lists 227, i'm sure it needs to be updated, but its a starting point.....

Neil,

thanks for the document. There are several vehicles that I didn't knew the existence. I will update and sort this by Département (sort of State if you want), and try to complete it by asking if there are more tanks on some French forums.
I'll try to do a French/English version if possible.

Armyjunk,

I don't have this book but I will try to find it.

Pierre, maybe I could scan the book for you if you can't get a copy. Its about 60 pages so I could scan it at 30 pages. I not sure it would be readable....Let me know......

Armyjunk2, I wouldnt mind having an electronic version as well (especially since it could take a month for the hardcopy to get to me). If you could e-mail it to me, baumgar @ hotmail.com, I'd appreciate it!

Armyjunk, I received the documents well. That's very interesting..

Neil, I think the France AFVs will take me at least a week or two to be completed, corrected etc.. Then I will send it to you for further corrections. I ask myself about doing a single French/English version or two separate English and French versions..., what do you think about?

Armyjunk, I got them as well - thanks.

Pierre-Olivier,
Sounds good. Please go ahead with the France register - I can incorporate the info into the Europe register at a later time. I would say seperate English & French versions. I'd be happy to help with editing the English version. I look forward to it!

Already got it..

But there are several more updates to do Wink the mess will be to list all the Shermans from Saumur, since some of them are regularly placed as monuments all around France, so I can't clearly know how much they have today... This week I will post some photos I took in the 90s from tanks I can't clearly identify (Stuart M5 or M5A1 for instance).

The France AFV register speed up greatly, I have now to sort out what's in the saumur museum...

Here is a photo taken by Stephen Drew in Mourmelon-le-Grand in 2006. Could someone tell me which vehicle it is? (I'm supposed to know it better than you.. Neutral French modern material doesn't interest me much)
