ok so i have a nice sleep in and my bro comes and tells me that we've got spyware and other crap on the computer..... anyone wanna help with gettin rid of it.Free programs neutralizeation... ANYTHING PLZ HELP Shocked

Microsoft - they have a free BETA anti-spyware tool that is very nice from what I've seen.

Along with "Spybot" I also use "Ad-Aware". They are both freeware and recommended by PCWorld. Just make sure, after installing, you have downloaded all the updates for both before using.

All of those suggestions work for most of the autodialers and spybots, but some are really clever and hide in the restore feature of XP. You may want to try disabling 'restore' and reboot. Then, run all the programs again and see what happens.

BTW, what is the name of the 'bugger'?

Battlehawk,

Are you using Internet Explorer? If so have you used it to clean out your cookie and Internet files? Tools/internet options/(general tab) delete cookies & delete files buttons.

Your problem may be way beyond this but it's a good starting point if you haven't done it already or do it on a regular basis.

I personally go into the cookies, temp and temporary Internet folders manually and delete all contents on a regular basis just to make sure they are clean but again your prob. could be heavy duty and placed elsewhere. Of course I dont recommend anyone doing this unless your absolutely sure you know what your doing.

copy and paste the link into your browser. Some spyware won't allow you to click a link like that. It tries to redirect it. If all else fails do a search for __ spybot search and destroy

For some things you will need a more robust cleaner, I'd suggest investing in... or finding someplace... XoftSpy it will clean some of the real nasties much better than the other programs.

You will probably want to find "hijack this" also. but be careful with that one, you can easily trash things. Best bet is if you have a very badly infected machine get professional help. Unless you know the ins and outs of the registry and feel comfortable making changes... or just don't mind having to reinstall windows.. Smile
