How many model kits do you have in your unbuilt kit stash?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I really need to show the 'other half' these photos! She thinks my 30 or 40 model kits are "I'll never build all those!". Laughing

Cool loft you've got there Chris.

I've been looking for a sweet M106A2 or M1064A2-3 Mortar track model for quite some time. I haven't really looked hard but when in a model section or store I always look for them or anything Mortar related. Darn near impossible to find since they aren't a tank, jeep, or Hummer. I've always wanted a nice diorama of one but I guess it's just a pipe dream for now. Like others have said, maybe I'll get ti it in retirement. I don't really have the patience and/or skill though and would probably just pay someone to build the diorama/model for me. I always thought it would make a cool center piece on a desk or in my army "collection" room.
Tamiya makes the old mortar carrier, an M106A1. MR Modellbau makes a conversion to update it to an M1064A3 and includes the interior upgrade, new style yoke, etc.

You guys have some nice stashes. My mix is about 50/50 figures vs AFV kits. The attached photos just show my AFV kits. Below in the drawers are my figures. My wife loves to show this to people to try and get me to get rid of some of it. Even if I can not build them all (or don't plan to) many are good for parts and kitbashing.

I threw in a shot of my workbench. Currently working on a bunch of figures for my NTC/Stgryker project. Putting MILES on figures is a pain!

I've got somewhere between 450 & 500 unbuilt. I just moved this past week and had gotten rid of 60+ kits at a show last year, but 450-500 is still a good number for what's left.

Jeff,

There's no way or intention that I'll ever build everything I own and I don't even pretend that to my missus. I just tell her the truth, I want them because I might want to build them and when I do, I don't want to have to go hunting for them when they are out of production. It' slike having extra cans of beans in the cupboard. You're not necessarily going to eat them on any particular day, but if you're hungry for beans, ya got 'em and don't have to go to the store.

Smile

Paul

Nice Shield there Bob. Reminds me of my 4/32 Armor 'Red Lions' affiliation days....

BTW....'WAY TOO NEAT' for my tastes....

I believe my wife refers to my 'work area' (in the basement, no less) as "TOO CLUTTERED WITH JUNK!!!"

Hi Jeff! Hi Folks!

- SFC_Jeff_Button

I've been looking for a sweet M106A2 or M1064A2-3 Mortar track model for quite some time.

Hey Jeff, you can stop looking for now, no such animal available at this time.

In 1/35 scale (the scale I buy the most) there are only three mortar carrier kits that I KNOW of. I am sure that others will jump in and let us know I am wrong Cool .

1. Tamiya M113 (mo-gas) M106.
2. Tamiya M21 (late WWII halftrack) with 81mm
3. Italiari LAV-M (USMC 8x8 armored car) with the current 81mm mortar.

When it comes to the M106A2, I would guess someone could take a M-113A2 kit and use the interior from Tamiya's M106 kit to make one. I would think it wouldn't be to hard.

As for a M1064A2, I don't think there is a kit of that 120mm mortar.
That one would take some scratch building.

So there is some hope for your dreams, now you just need someone who builds models.
Sgt, Scouts Out!

P.S. Follow up: I posted the above after reading Jeff's post and before reading all the posts on page 2. I didn't know about that conversion kit Sabot posted.

Jeff, it looks like you just need to find someone who really builds models and not collects the kits.
Sgt, Scouts Out!

Hi AJ2! Hi Folks!

- armyjunk2

Girlfriend here took one look and said those guys don't have wives. women wouldn't have that junk in their house.....little does she know whats here

I wasn't going to say anything until I read this comment.

AJ2 tell your girl friend that I have been married sense January 1974 to the same women. At that time, I had five foot lockers full of build, started, and still in the box model kits!

As of today, I have:
29 kits I call done. Ready for a contest or a club display
43 kits I call broken. Kits that at one time were done.
173 kits that I have glued some parts together, about half are waiting for painting.
546 kits still in the box.
Total count is 791 that I know of. From time to time I find one that is not listed in my inventory.

I though I was bad, but I think Sabot has me beat by a long shot.

Also AJ2, tell your girl friend that as a model builder, she will know were you are and what you are doing. That has worked for me for 33 years!
Sgt, Scouts Out!

P.S.
I keep telling myself that I am a model builder, but those numbers keep telling me that I am a kit collector. Last year I was able to start and finish one kit, Tamiya's old Sheridan.

Don't feel bad, normally whenever I post those photos, someone always chimes in that their stash puts mine to shame. I normally add a disclaimer that I do not think I have the largest stash and anyone who wishes to state that theirs is bigger than mine I will already defer to their greater stash, with or without photos.

I've been married for almost 15 years, and we have six (yes, 6 kids) children aged 21, 18, 17, 13, 10, 2. (Wife had 3 kids when I married her, and we had another 3 together).
