This is Armor related, its a M1917 Helmet with the armor emblem on the front and the 301st Tank Battalion is marked on the rear of the helmet. The 301st Tank Battalion operated Heavy Tanks during the First World War. A fairly rare piece of Tanker equipment....I thought you all might like seeing this.

a few friends collect WW1, and a friend from the battery has been collecting WW1 helmets. any photos of the 301st? what become of the 301st? can you share some more of their history?

before they started collecting, i never realized that the unit insignia was painted/stencilled onto the front of the helmet. i dont need to start collecting WW1 stuff. WW1 has never really captured my interest, i have no interest in collecting or modeling anything from that time period...

The colorful history of the 3rd Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment dates back to the early months of 1917 and World War I. During the summer of 1918, the unit, as part of the 301st Heavy Tank Battalion, saw their first deployment - into the British sector of France as support for the American 27th Division into the Somme area of France. From that point on until the end of the war, the unit was in constant action. After returning to the United States following the war, the 301st Heavy Tank Battalion joined the 303d Heavy Tank Battalion (part of the 301st Tank Brigade), commanded by then Colonel George S. Patton.
