A little quiz....
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I just returned. Interesting stories above fellas. I can understand the cynicism of being a veteran, but there is still plenty to learn for the new guys and guys that have new responsibilities.

I believe in years past REMFs did not have MILES and were really not part of the "game." Now they are since there are no front lines. I witnessed a situation at a FOB wherein the OPFOR mortared it and casualties were simulated with real soldiers, and dummies that really bleed and have pulses and whatnot. The REMFs had to react while the medics were on their way.

Another situation occurred where an officer got too aggressive with OPFOR and was relieved.

Attached are a few photos I thought would be of interest.

Bob

Ahhh, Tiefort City huh?! That Soviet tank was plastic/fiberglass wasn't it? They had three of those on display for a long time that were still parked behind a fence 7 months ago. They did have however, many fake tanks around the post just sitting wherever they were left, usually in dirt lots and empty parking areas. It's my guess that they trailered one out there for looks and to get it off the garrison area. Watch for snakes there this summer!
The bottom picture is of the "Buffalo" if I remember correctly. It spends alot of time at the NTC, putting on demonstrations. Now that NTC is the National IED studies HQ's as well, I'll bet it see's lots of use.
The conex-turned home looks identical to what my men and I stayed in for weeks at a time. Cold in the winter and hot in the summer, I don't miss them to much.

OK, it's not the same exact vehicle but the same design. I wanted to say that before everyone else pointed it out, haha. Any ideas on what the golfcart vehicle might do? The Staff Sergeant that was with the cart was mum on the spec's. Then again maybe he was just a guard and didn't know squat any way.

I suspect the 'golf cart' is a larger remote controlled version of the hand held metal detector style of mine detector. It also might be set up to detonate or deactivate electronically controlled mines.

When I saw the first picture I had a flashback to my younger days working at my mothers kennel. I thought that was a heck of a big 'pooper scooper' Laughing Laughing

I have a few more pictures of the NTC museum in my stash that I took this past spring 2006. They were replicating an Iraqi voting area. There was also two battle damaged HMMWV doors on display. I'll have to find the rest of my NTC pic's.
