Some tanks to identify, stored at Saumur
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

As it appears that the links on the first post don't work, here are the pictures I tried to show you :

I can see 5 vehicles on the 2 photos, including an M47 Patton. What are the 4 other vehicles?

The one to the left looks like an M48, or at least an M48 turret on something...

Also this one remains unidentified..

Batignolles-Châtillon 25 t

Some other pics can be seen at this link:
www.chars-francais.net...tillon.htm

The French tried so many cleft turret designs!

Right to left: Rear end of a Soviet BTR-50
M47 rear hull, front of turret
M48 German (smoke lauchers) missing main gun barrel
The rusty one is a Soviet tracked recovery vehicle.
Vehicle at the very far left, French AMX-30

Also this one remains unidentified..

That's not the front end of the AMX-13 light tank which we saw a rear view of in another photo?

Some accidental misquoting going on... But anyway, nope, AMX-13 has a different front hull - and smaller too.

www.chars-francais.net...x13-75.htm

The hull on this one is much more sharply sloped - and rather Panther-like, which is a fairly common post-war French design element...

Compare:

The Chars Francaise pictures also appear to be from Saumur, albeit earlier, before the paint faded...

BTW, next to and behind the STRV 74 are indeed two M32s...

I was thinking that the two M32 stored near the STRV 74 were maybe the Ecouché and the Porthos seen on chars-francais.net..(the photos of both tanks are quite old, so maybe they were repainted..) but the recent photos don't allow to see any marking.

Edit Note: The M32 is actually an M31 ARV.... my mistake.

Don

Post subject: Re: Some tanks to identify, stored at Saumur

Pascal, I had a look at chars-francais.net and found a photo of the AMX-13 Bridgelayer, and so concluded that it is in fact the same tank on the photo. So you're right.

Thanks to all for having identified all these vehicles.

I just sent the France AFVs Register v1.0 to Neil for corrections and additions, and I think it will be released in few days.. Then, if it is absolutely necessary, I will translate it in order to publish a list in French. (In France we are known for having huge difficulties in learning foreign languages..)

As it appears that the links on the first post don't work, here are the pictures I tried to show you :

Type 69 ARV (Iraqi)

I can see 5 vehicles on the 2 photos, including an M47 Patton. What are the 4 other vehicles? (maybe you should see if it's an M48 or M60 bridge layer.)

Type 69 ARV, M60A0, M48/M60 AVLB, M47 and maybe a BTR-50/OT-62? It has the Soviet style clamshell hydrojet doors.

What's the sand painted tank on the middle-right and the small armoured car on the right?

AMX-40

What's this tank hull on the left?

Some kind of AMX-VCI variant
. Medical transport? Mortar carrier? There are a lot of variants, but I can only find pics of one or two:

* AMX-VTP - Original APC variant armed with open-mount light machine-gun
* AMX-VTT (AMX-VCI) - APC fitted with turret mounted light machine-gun
* AMX-LT - VTT based artillery fire control vehicle
* AMX-PC - VTT based command Post
* AMX-VCA - VTT based 155 mm Support Vehicle designed to accompany the Mk F3 SPH
* AMX-VCG - Combat engineer version
* AMX-VCI 12.7 - Version with 50 calibre (12.7 mm) HMG used by France and the Netherlands
* AMX-VCI M-56 - Fitted with Canon de 20 mm
* AMX-VCPM de 81 - VTT based 81 mm Mortar Carrier
* AMX-VCPM de 120 - VTT based 120 mm Mortar Carrier
* AMX-VCTB (Vehicule Chenillé Transport Blessés) - VTT based Ambulance
* AMX-VTT avec tourelle NA2 - Fitted with ATGM launcher
* AMX-VTT ROLAND - Roland SPAAML
* AMX-VTT Version 1987 - Modernised version with all the tank automotive improvements
* AMX-VTT with Minotaur Mine System - Minotaur scatterable mine-laying system fitted on rear
* AMX-13 RATAC - VTT based RATAC ground surveillance radar vehicle
* AMX DOZER - bulldozer blade equipped version
* AMX-13 VCPC - Argentinian Army version of the AMX-13 VCI
* AMX-13 mod.56 VCI - Belgian Army version with a .30 Browning mounted in a CALF38 turret.
* AMX-13 mod.56 [81 mm mortar carrier] - Belgian Army version
* AMX-13 mod.56 [command post] - Belgian Army version
* AMX-13 mod.56 [ENTAC atgm] - Belgian Army version with rear-mounted ENTAC missile launcher
* AMX-13 mod.56 [cargo] - Belgian Army version
* AMX-VTT TOW - Dutch Army version with TOW launcher on cupola
* AMX-GWT (GeWonden Transport) - Dutch army version of the VCTB

Also this one remains unidentified..

Somua SM? www.chars-francais.net...mua_sm.htm

What's the big vehicle behind the AMX-13? (the green one, not the BTR-50)

M88 ARV. Probably an M88A1

Thanks Don,

more vehicles :

BTW, next to and behind the STRV 74 are indeed two M32s...

Neil

Aren't those actually M74s?

Cheers,

Jens O.
