Post subject: Complete list of Oil Rigs in FS-9

Hi everyone.

I'm posting this as promised this afternoon during the Sunday World Tour Flight. It was posted at Hovercontrol and was done because the member wanted to know where all of the oil rigs were in FS9, and had too much time on his hands, as he posted below. If you fly helicopters like myself, it is a good thing to know an interesting place to practice landing on a small pad. Take it from me, it takes a lot of practice to set a chopper down on one of these rigs, especially if you are flying real weather. The winds can make it tough.

Whilst on holiday and with a little too much spare time on my hands, I have sought about tracking down a list of all landable oil rigs in the default FS9 scenery. I found a few lists on the web, but none were complete. This is a complete list, taken from an extensive search through the default BGL files. There are 31 of them, in fact. Some (North Sea, Persian Gulf to name a few) have navaids co-located with them for easy navigation. Obviously, the only thing that can land on them is a heli (and the only part which is landable is the helipad.. i've learned through bitter experience)

The trick is that you need to have your Scenery Complexity set to "Very Dense" in order to see any platforms outside the US. The scenery models used in the US are exactly the same as those used elsewhere, it's just that the rest of the world isn't nearly as important as the US, as we all know.

The titles for each area correspond to the scenery files they came from. The North Sea is in the "Ocen" folder which I always thought meant 'oceania' but in reality probably means 'ocean'.

I checked out all the only default oil rigs that had any navaids were the rigs outside the U.S. None of the rigs in the GOM or other North American locations had any navaids.

I moved the first entry on your North Sea list (lat=N 33 30.74322 lon=W 77 36.50676) to the North America list as it was off the coast of North Carolina.
I am not sure these are all of the default oil rigs there are in FS9. I know of one oil rig off Port Clarence, Alaska that is not on this list. It's lat/long is N065* 12.32' W166* 45.83'. I am sure there are probably other "missing" rigs scattered about the world. If anyone knows of any other oil platforms than those on the list, please let us know.
The first three rigs listed in the Asia list are north of the U.A.E while the last one in the Asia list is south of New Guinea.
Surprisingly, one of the oil rigs on the North America list (lat=N 36 19.04856 lon=W 93 55.73214) sits in the middle of a lake near Garfield, Arkansas which is several hundred miles inland from the Gulf Of Mexico!

jk jk, but yeah i live near the lost bridge village area and grew up here, and while it's in FS 9, I have never known of any Oil Rig in Beaver Lake, Razz
Does Bill or someone at Microsoft know something about the area I don't?
