M4 & M48 Ft. Lewis
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Pictures work best if you put them out on a site like photobucket and then create a link to the image on the site.

Hi Jack, Welcome to the AFV forum!

I looked at your post and don't see any of the conventions for adding in the image. Those appear by clicking on the little "picture" thingy above and to the left of the text window (that looks like a picture of a mountain range with a sun above it to the right of the peaks) and a "box" appears in which you paste or link your picture source too....such as a Photobucket or Imageshack account...or even one here in the Com-central gallery that you can use (but only on this website).

Or, you can type in the convention thingy:

[img]http://www.locationofyourpicturesblahblahblah.jpg[/img...] (but withoout those last three dots, just so my command line will show, hopefully.)

Thanks, Bob...ya' beat me to it!
Jacques Littlefields' MVTF is not a museum but a "foundation" that is not open to the public in the usual sense, but permits three tours a week or so to groups or qualified individuals as he finds convenient in order to maintain it's tax status, or something like that. Usual procedure is to contact the foundation via it's website and request a visit and he/they will suggest an opportunity based on your timeframe and purpose that works for both parties. Or perhaps someone here with more frequent access will contact you and offer to escort you on one of their visits.

No problem. I use the 'type in the convention thingy' method but instead of typing I just grab the location refeerence that photobucket gives you by using <ctrl>v and past it into the message, they even give you the [img] delineators!

By the way where were the pictures taken?

Thanks Doug and Bob

I used to be down at Ft. Lewis but I didn't get many more shots because I figured that I would be down again to take more.

I've been a long time reader since 2001
I haven't posted on the new forum much since it was switched over here

Thanks for the info on Littlefields foundation

I was think of making a road trip from the northern reaches of Washington state

Well, now that you're here, we'll expect to see a lot more of you.

I went through Ft. Lewis once...on my way to VN, actually. Overnight express...I was there one day and one night. "Rapid deployment"...they had a plane to fill. Rolling Eyes

And just so you don't go thinkin' I'm rich or sumthin', C-C only had a budget for one AFV moderator....I've been payin' Bob out of my own pocket, but don't tell him or he'll book a heavy guilt trip on me and probably disappear when I really need him. Mum's the word...'Kay? Wink

Jack, are you near Chehalis by chance? There's supposed to be a former logging Sherman and an unidentified WWII Light Tank (same tank?) there...

Also, again not knowing whether these are close to you or not, but we could use some pics of the Kent, Odessa, Orting & Union Gap M60s so we can confirm they're A3 models.

Sorry Bob, I missed your question
I took those on the north portion of Ft. Lewis...because it's north of the freeway. I-5 cuts thru the base at that point.
It's called North Fort.
I think where I took it is near the corner of 32 Division Dr and 22nd St.

I just looked at google maps and I can't locate them at that location, so they must have moved them.

What do the markings indicate who it is attached to?

Neil,

I'm further north but I head south to Portland periodically
I know the logging sherman you are talking about
There was one at a company called Madill in Kalama, it could have been any one of the chassis of an M4 that was turned into a yarder, it may have been passed around to another timber equipment yard in Chehalis.
Next time I go to Portland, I might be able to hit Kent and Orting.

I might be headed to spokane in may, I'll see if I can take a side trip up to odessa

as for Union Gap that's way out of my way.

Jack, I've used your two images on Preserved Tanks.com:

Unique ID 1398: Fort Lewis M4A1(76)

Unique ID 1404: Fort Lewis M60

Thanks - but let me know if it's a problem and I'll take them down.

[Also sent by PM as Jack hasn't been on the forum recently]
