MT-LB at Ft Hood, for Neil...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Neil,
Here's another vehicle I missed that you can add to your listing for Ft Hood. It sits on 27th Street. It was captured by the 588th ENG Battalion on 6 March 1991 during Operation Desert Storm. This vehicle was in Iraq when captured. I got two interior shots due to the loose fitting rear doors that I was able to stick my arm through.

Neil, did you have this on your list of Ft Hood armor displays?

Surprisingly good interior condition. Looks like it was kept semi-operational, if not run at some point since it came to the US.

I don't remember that MTLB, but I do remember that corner....

It is a MT-LBV (V meaning wide tracks)! Do you have the s/n for it?

It is like 38901001, where
3 = MT-LBV
89 = year
01 = month
001 = vehicle nr in that month & year.

Is on the edge in the nose.

Crikey Don I would have thought that you would have got the designation right even if the US Army didn't...

Cool

Hello to all, I didn't make it back to get the nose serial but I did talk to the 4th ID museum director about this MTLB. It seems that 4th ID does not want to move the vehicle to Ft Carson when the transfer there, and have asked the post museum to take it off their hands. The director said that it will probably end up in her storage facility. She has a Medic version at the museum and would like to have this command version beside it but just doesn't have the room currently. I will try to get back to get the serial number eventually.

I got back to this today and the serial number was 387116575, (9 digits). Per "Esa's" post, this vehicle was built November of 1987. However this has four more digits than the three he indicates. It cant be the 6,575th one built that month?!?!? I guess we know where to look on MTLB's for serials now. I dont really know much about Soviet / Foriegn stuff. Little help here.
