A little OT, but maybe someone can help?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: A little OT, but maybe someone can help?

A viewer of the VHPAMuseum website (my other indulgence) contacted the webmaster, who contacted me. I thought maybe somebody here might know where to look or can help this fellow out. Here is the message verbatim:

"Hello,

I'm found of french fortifications built during the period 1874-1914 (I'm the webmaster of a site about it : lpracht.free.fr ).
Surfing on the web, I found on your web site, some pictures of the french fort of Rach Cat, which was built in the early 1900's.
This fort was armed with two armoured turret mounted with two 240 mm guns. There were only five of those turrets built, two were in Saigon, three were in Dakar. Only the one of the isle of Gorée is still there, but the turret was modified between WWI and WWII, to be mounted with high perfomances guns.
I wanted to know if you have any other pictures of these very fort, or of the coastal batteries of Vung Tau, or of the "ouvrage" of the road to Ba-ria, a small concrete fort, armed with the only 2 x 75mm gun turret, built outside France.
The informations on the fortifications built in former colonies are hard to find, even in France, so, if you have any, I'm interested in.

Best regards.

Lionel PRACHT"

... the "ouvrage" of the road ... he means the "works" in the old fashioned sense of the world.

I am looking at his website now, to see what sort of things he has posted.

He might want to try contacting:
www.cdsg.org/
if he hasn't already. They tend to concentrate on US forts but kindred spirits and all that.
