Any pics of destroyed Iraqi T-59's?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Here's A Type 69,....still looking around....

Title: Tank Graffiti in Kuwait
A disabled Iraqi tank (Chinese-made T-69) is scrawled with an apparent U.S. soldier's name, but it remains unknown if he was from 3AD.

I suppose they are destroyed tanks but definately not Type 59... all so far are Type 69. The only Type 59 with the headlights on the catwalk/fenders is the Type 59D.

Images of destroyed iraqi Type 59 are hard to find!

Attached is an image from the CD I produced of destroyed & abandoned Iraqi Equipment - yes its a Type 69 again!

Cool

Shoot Jim,

you're right, should teach me to keep my brain focussed Did a quick check of some references, all of them stated Iraq purchased only Type 69s from China in 1982/83- could it be they didn't have any T-59s at all?

Cheers,

Jens O.

Indeed,

seems like they received 700 of one type and 800 of the other, Bovington's being an example captured in theatre 1991 and later modified with a 105, Baumholder supposedly has another one in the museum.

Never seen one back in '91, only T-59, -62 and -72, but then the ones in the Valley of Death were pretty much unrecognizable or unapproachable due to unexploded ordnance and IEDs, and I haven't been to every enemy vehicle collection point in theatre... And boy, that T-72 was a tight fit for my 6'6", and those BMPs were enough to make you claustrophobic.

Cheers,

Could they have lost most of them (the 59s) in ODS?
