The AFV Forum "language skills" thread...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: The AFV Forum "language skills" thread...

'Cause it seemed like a good idea and we've had several occasions to seek translations of short texts, website entries, artifacts and such...

I'm assembling a list of those members with language skills who wish to make them known who are willing to help out when the need arises for helping us decipher items for those of us deficient in this area (that is, limited to English or subvariants thereof). We are blessed with an international assembly here, so it'd be nice to know "who to call" when confronted with this issue, if you're willing. Volunteers just post below, make yourself known and I'll add you to a list I'm putting together. No language is too obscure and we can always use duplicates and triplicates for backup. Here's what I've got so far...the gaps are obvious:
(In no particular order, so don't get offended, and whatever else you've got if it's not listed, add it anyway, it isn't all-inclusive)

If, for any reason you want to do it privately, we can work it that way, too...just PM me...I'm keeping a notepad document that I won't post.

Actually I did them before Mami ever entered the picture. Was working for BP in Venezuela. They wanted reports in English and Spanish! Mr. Green

Come to think of it Esa Muikku will be much more qualified for Finnish translations, I can always help out though.

Norwegian and Danish are fairly easy for a Swede to translate (online dictionary for the odd word handy), as it is for any Norwegian or Dane to translate Swedish for that matter. At least the written languages are closely related (as long as it's not Nynorsk Norwegian, no offense).

I'm sure there's a joke there somewhere that next to none of us are getting. Laughing OK, I'll put you down for "generic Scandinavian languages, as the need arises" (except Nynorsk...which I now will have to ask my guy in Norge about... Rolling Eyes )

By the way, your avatar is giving my avatar "muzzle envy". Wink

Tsk tsk tsk,

you don't know "New Norwegian"(=Nynorsk)... Since Wikipedia can explain it much more in depth than I could- I only know the basics due to an occasional fling with Scandinavian history-, have a look here. Cool
