Question about Chenillette Lorraine 37L
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Question about Chenillette Lorraine 37L

Hello,

I thought that the Chenillettes Renault had 3 pairs of road wheels, like on these pictures ??? :

I received a mail recently, with some photos of Chenillettes 37L with only 2 pairs of wheels :

(Auburn WW2 museum)

(French private collection)

Who could help me with that??

Pierre-Olivier

Pierre-Olivier,

I know them by the far more common name Chenillette Lorraine and was under the impression that Renault was busy building UE carriers- but then my memory is not what it used to be.

Anyways, the way I remember it, the 6-wheeler is the bona fide wartime version, the 4-wheeler was built after the war as an agricultural tractor and served as the basis for not-so original rebuilts of the wartime version later in its life- although some enthusiastic wheeler-dealers tried to sell them as protoypical or clandestinely Résistance-modified vehicles Rolling Eyes

I'll dig out the issue of "Wheels & Tracks" dealing with the matter on hand and will get back to you to confirm.

Cheers,

Jens O.

My mistake, I wanted to say Lorraine 37L and not Renault 37L .. I mixed up this one with the Renault UE.

The shortened Lorraine was made postwar IIRC for the Forest Agency (Eaux et forêts).
