Dutch YPR variants, for those who are interested
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Well, I`m interested, Lesley, and think we missed the boat on some of this here YPR variant type stuff instead of pharting around with XM800whathaveyous that never made it into production or even the (sorry, Roy) M114 and would have been well served for a long time (and sooner) by a little brother to the Bradley for lower intensity scenerios, but there seemed not enough bling and money in it for anybody...or something.

Anyway, if you´ve got pics of any of these and have time to post or send ´em, I´d sure like to see or receive them.

BTW, I just left Amsterdam and Arnhem behind, but was on a rushed schedule to get to Lisboa. Hope to be around more later this year. Let you know.

"Riot Control with ´dozer blade? I like the sound of that...obviously no ACLU Dutch chapter to crimp your crowd control efforts. Wink

Doug,

See tanxheaven.com/ypr765v...varpic.htm for a selection of YPR pics Lesley mentioned, including the one for riot control. They are actually operated by the military police and thus painted blue. I saw a couple of them racing down the freeway the other day. Pedal to the metal, on their own tracks, escorted by Mercedes jeeps through the morning rush hour!

Regards,
Hanno

Kewl! Blue is obviously a warmer, fuzzier color to wade into an unruly crowd of rowdy and aggressive tulip wavers with using that dozer blade than some insensitive lookin´ army green, fer cripes sakes! Laughing

OK, jus´kiddin´ obviously there could be barricade issues and stuff like that...*snicker*...heck, a guy can dream, can´t he? Neat page...I like those YPRs, though wonder what the heck that designation is supposed to mean, anyway? I´m guessing there´s a hidden Dutch acronym in there somewhere? It´s a lot snappier than "Product Improved M113A1", which never caught on or sold, so maybe it was the name (and more foresight on the part of the Dutch Army, I might add)

YPR is just a military designation. For example, there was a previous wheeled APC called the YPR-408.

AFAIK the ''PR'' in ''YPR'' means Pantser Rups (Armoured Track). Were the ''Y'' stands for I dont know for sure but I think something like ''Utility''

YPR-765PRI = Pantser Rups Infanterie/Armoured Track Infantry

YPR-765PRCO-B Panter Rups Commandovoertuig/armoured track Command & Control, subvariant B

YPR-765PRCO-C1 Same but subtype C1

YPR-765PRCO-C2 = Same but subtype C2

YPR-765PRGN = Pantser Rups GeNie/Armoured track Engineer .

YPR-765PRCO-C4 = Pantser Rups Commandvoertuig/Armoured Track Command & control, subtype C4

YPR-765PRCO-C5 = Samne but subtype C5

YPR-765PRBDR = Pantser Rups Battle Damage Repair/Armoured Track Battle Damage Repair

YPR-765PRGWT = Pantser Rups GeWondenTransport / Armoured Track Wounden Transpost

YPR-765PRMR = Pantser Rups MoRtier/Armoured Track Mortar

YPR-765PRV = Pantser Rups Vracht /Armoured Track Cargo

YPR-765PRAT = Pantser Rups Anti-Tank/Armoured Track Anti-Tank

Our Fire Support Coordination YPR will be replaced in the comming months by Fenneks (one per company) equipped with laser range finder and electronics to send targetdata to the PzH platoons .

Regards,
Lesley

P.S Tim, you've got my yahoo e-mail?

Will do, Sir. I´m huddled over a business center computer at the Lisboa Sheraton and will make this "priority one"! Should be able to get on again later today and tomorrow...I will be here for a few days and then in Porto for one.

I have tried to redeem myself by finding out what the Y stands for, but I have failed. Maybe it's a manufacturer designation (DAF) like with US WW2 aircraft (F = Grumman, U = Vought, ...)?

I did come across a website devoted to the YP408 (all in Dutch though)!

"Y" just means it's a military vehicle, there's no further rhyme or reason to it, it's just one of those designations, and "P" means armoured.

Cheers,

Jens O.

Done, Sir....however, all attempts to send to the "other" address you suggested "bounced" as "address not recognized". Maybe the server is down? I copied and pasted the addy, so it isn´t a typing error. Tried several times and all of them failed.

Anyway, the offer will be cheerfully accepted at the first opportunity!
