I want to buy a camcorder, but I am clueless as to what type, i. e. format to get. I figure that most of you tech savvie pilots would be able to help me with this. $700 would be my limit. I have digital cameras for stills, but I don't like the short videos they take. I want to film operations out here on drilling rigs, air shows, military expositions, etc.

I've been looking and reading reviews of Digital camcorders for quite a while now with a view to buying one...You can't rush these things. Smile

I've not decided on a make or model yet but the few conclusions I have made up to now is...

It must be a 3 CCD type.
Reasonable optical zoom. (Ignore digital zoom completely)
Records onto a hard drive.

I'd like one with firewire and not usb, but I'm still looking.

i have this model www.simplydv.co.uk/Rev...gs250.html happy with it too, as long as u dont mind miniDV its a good option but theres loads out there.
consider the price to the amount of use your going to give it is my opinion, pointless splashing out big money if your crap at editing etc, 99% of recording usually gets scrapped here, also on the zoom issue, these tiny things dont stabalise to well on long range stuff so invest in a decent tripod too.
