Some Normandy armor in honor of D-Day & our WWII veterans
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

And last but not least, the PzKpfw VI Tiger abandoned in Vimoutiers, Normandy on 19 August due to lack of fuel

The DD is an M4A4,not M4A3, Sherman V DD in British parlance, though I think this one is ex-Canadian

I'm currently updating my website and you can see some new walkarounds and some updates (that is to say, more complete walk-arounds). Here is the one concerning the Sherman DD M4A4 at Courseulles :

http://the.shadock.free.fr/Tanks_in_France/sherman_courseulles/index.html

Photos taken 5 days ago. As usual, click on the photos to get larger ones..

The updates on the website will take some days before being completely finished, so keep an eye on it...

P-O,
I know this would require a lot of modification on your part, but I think the way you are titling your images means that we cant hot-link them to the board (using the image button function).

For example, Sherman%20M4A4%20DD%20Courseulles-sur-mer%201.JPG wont work, whereas ShermanM4A4DDCourseulles-sur-mer1.JPG probably would - the %20 represents spaces inbetween words, which a lot of systems dont like. Of course you may not want people being able to hot-link your images, which I could understand..

That's because of the brackets :

the.shadock.free.fr/Tanks_in_France/churchill_graye/images/Churchill%20AVRE%20Graye-sur-Mer%207.JPG

will work because there are no brackets

the.shadock.free.fr/Tanks_in_France/sherman_arromanches/images/Sherman%20M4A2%20(75)%20Arromanches%203.JPG

will not work

It seems that I'll have to redo some pages from my website..

P-O

Sorry, neither one works. See below. I believe its because of the spaces... Which translate to %20...

Yes it works, for the Churchill picture, the [/img] is on another paragraph, that's why it doesn't work in your post..

Ah, okay, my mistake - you're right, I guess it was the brakets (or parentheses).

The reason why the above image doesn't work in the forum is because it's formatted incorrectly, if you look very closely there has been a space inserted between .JPG and the closing square bracket.

i.e. .JPG [/img]

it should be .JPG[/img]

remove the space and the picture will show.

Hope that helps

Hi Jeff! Hi Folks!

- piney

Notice the rear sprocket on the DD ?
Jeff Lewis

The early DD's had a sprocket plated bolted to the rear idler wheels to insure the track would turn the props. It was found that the track block put enough pressure on the idler wheels that the sprocket plates were not necessity. A lot of DD's pictures show idler wheels that have a ring mounted between the center hub and the outer rim. That ring had holes in it for mounting the sprocket plate to the idlers. That ring is a great way to ID an ex-DD that has had all the other DD gear removed.

Hi Shadock! Hi Folks!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

The walk around photos of "Bold" are great. I have been looking for a good set of photos of the rear area of a DD. I think I now have good understanding on how the back end was set up.
