The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. Some additional photos of vehicles on display outside the conference center (Skidgel Hall) in the parking lot during the 2007 Armor Warfighting Conference at Ft. Knox. I took these at the end of April and I hope some of you find these useful or informative. --Bob Steinbrunn

Hi Bob, Do they still call this an M88 and what, approximately does this big MoFo weigh in at now with all that extra armor? (Is it still diesel?)

It is the M88A2 Hercules (Name is actually an acronym, but I forget off hand). It is the same base vehicle updated to handle the 70ton weight of the heavy A1/A2s. _________________ RobG

Was the addition of the weapons station to the M88 a result of combat experience in Iraq?

If I remember right the old M-88 'gassers' had 1050 horse power. The tank above has the bumper # "BED-01". Translation: The M1 tank fleet (At Ft Knox) is divided into three fleets- A.B & C'. "ED" is an enhanced diagnostics M1A1. So this tank is a 'B' Fleet Enhanced Diagnotics Tank, Vehicle #1. _________________ "TUMBLEWEED"
