Armor Warfighting Conference pics #3 - Ft. Knox
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Jim

Now Now, don't wanna start any false variant rumors.....

This is 'simply' an M1A1 with ALL the 'dealer options'.

Note: No improved CWS or CITV, so not even an M1A2.

Did I see an image of an Abrams fitted with the birdcage armour somewhere on this board?

Or am I suffering from lack of breakfast? Wink

It's called TUSK or Tank Urban Survivability Kit. It includes the ERA panels (which require removal of the normal ballistic skirts), a loaders armored gun station that includes a thermal sight), and a few other doodads like the Tank/Infantry phone (TI phone).

There's also a BUSK for the Bradley. I wonder if there's a GUSK for the M113 Wink

I hear they are bringing back M114 Carriers for Iraq. Will be called the "Lingle Urban Survivability Track" or "LUST". Wink

I can see the CNN headlines now! A Lingle LUST breaks a track while racing through rush hour traffic and takes out a dozen POVs, six of which where found to be loaded with artillery shells! Laughing Rolling Eyes Wink

I wonder now that the Army will be using something I was trained on, if they will recall me now? Razz

Is the fixture on the right rear of the wheeled vehicle for an anti-IED antenna?

Hi Jim! Hi Folks!

If you are talking about the mount for the M2HB 50 cal. machine gun, that is one way to ID an A2 as an SEP. That change was one of the items done during the SEP upgrade.

Speaking of A2s and A2 SEPs, does anyone know if there are still any standard A2s in service or did all of them get upgraded to SEP status?

The 'FLEX' M2HB (on the M1A2 & -A2 SEP) replaced the 'Crysler' M2HB (on the M1 thru M1A1).

The CWS was completely altered to facilitate the CITV/IVIS/FBCB2.

gagets & Information 'over load' replaced the ability to fire the .50cal from within the turret.

So the 'FLEX' mount is standard on all A2? OK, that was an alertness test to see if anyone was paying attention! Well done Don, you passed the test!
