hello bob,
nice to meet you and have you at the DG. i have never been able to frequent this DG as much as some of the others. the most important thing above the info that can be found on this DG is the "members" of the DG. their experiences cant be found in the texts.

I not infrequently recruited from among the cooks to flesh out my crew on "Head Shoppe" in Vietnam. They were enthusiast gunners and I'm sure it made for better stories than "I sat around the NDP all day while the guys went out on patrols". They did just fine.

I'm a model collector (AKA failed model builder). I'm a software engineer in real life. I was a guest at a ROTC FTX (got to fire M-1 Garand, M-16, and M-60, operate a PRC-77, as well as get lost at night) and was in Army ROTC at UC Berkeley for one year (UCB and I didn't see eye to eye so I quit). Thought about joining the Army but a friend of mine who had gone in told me not to (this was during the Post-Vietnam "Drug Army" days). My father served as an Intel &Recon scout with the 1st Cav during the Korean War.

hey, as they say, we had good food, then the cooks got a hold of it!
i am not a cook (that could be a very bad nixon joke).
i just said that, as you know, it is very much the case to just be the lowest of the ranks. can keep your distance from the brass, the bosses and any responsibilities that one does not wish to have.
