Open House AAR (LST/R.M.P./Patton Museum)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Okay, here we go again... The crux of the problem is that Hunnicutt & Haugh/Diplessis refer to chassis numbers (matched with RNs), and not serial numbers - whereas we have SNs off the hulls... We can possibly make some assumptions of how SNs match up based on a sequential numbering of the RNs, but even that isnt quite clear.

This following info is from Hunnicutt Abrams, p. 93-95; and "An Idea Too Early for Its Time: The US Army T95 Medium/Heavy Tank Series" by David R. Haugh and Michael Duplessis in the November 1999 issue of the Journal of Military Ordnance:

9B1043: First pilot T95, sent to APG, later converted to a T95E8 - chassis no. 4.
9B1044: Second pilot T95, sent to Knox, later converted to a T95E8 - chassis no 7.
9B1045: Third pilot T95, sent to APG - chassis no 8.
9B1046: Fourth pilot T95, retained at Detroit, later fitted with variable height suspension and Integrated Fighting Compartment turret - chassis no 9. Turret later transferred to Ford Aeroneutronics for use in Shillelagh testing.
9B1047: T95E1 pilot, sent to APG, later converted to a T95E8 - chassis no. 5. Probably the one at Weirton, WV.
9B1048: First pilot T95E2 (M48 turret), sent to APG, later converted to a T95E5 - chassis no. 1
9B1049: Second pilot T95E2 (M48 turret), sent to Knox - chassis no. 3, Could be the one at Fort McCoy, WI.
9B1050: First pilot T95E3, sent to Yuma, later converted to a T95E8 and then fitted with a variable height suspension, now range target at Camp Grayling, MI? - aka chassis no. 2
9B1051: Second pilot T95E3, sent to Knox, later converted to a T95E8 and then fitted with a variable height suspension and M60E2 turret - chassis no. 6. Most likely the one at Fort Knox.
9B1052: T95E8, tested at Yuma, later fitted with an Integrated Fighting Compartment turret armed with a 120mm Delta gun
9B1053: T95E8
9B1054: T95E8
9B1055: T95E8, tested at Detroit Tank Arsenal
9B2027: T118 Combat Engineer Vehicle variant, later fitted with a variable height suspension and M48 turret.
9B2028: T118 CEV
9B2029: T118 CEV
9B2030: T95 built for, but not fitted with AVLB. Later fitted with a friction/hydropneumatic variable height suspension and M48 turret at APG. Apparently later fitted with M60E2 turret. Now in storage at Anniston Army Depot.

IF the SNs are sequential, that matches up well for the Weirton T95 (SN 5) to be 9B1047 / chassis no. 5. We're then left to resolve the Knox T95 (SN 8 ) and McCoy T95 (SN 12). If the SNs are sequential against the RNs, then the Knox T95 should be 9B1050 (chassis no. 2) - but I dont have any record of that chassis being fitted with a M60E2 turret and we have photographic evident in Haugh / Duplessis of 9B1051 (chassis no 6) at Fort Knox with the same turret & suspension, etc. The McCoy T95 almost certainly proves that SNs are not the same as chassis numbers since there is no record in Hunnicutt or Haugh / Duplessis of a chassis no. 12... If the SNs and RNs are at least somewhat sequential, its a T95E8...

Don, I should have asked before, but since the Knox example is the only one we have interior access to, any chance you could look for a dataplate? I also wonder if the RN is painted on somewhere, perhaps on the side by the wall...

Confused

Looks better inside than I'd expect it to, considering it sat outside for a long time...

...and I hope you're kidding about no exterior shots! Shocked

Mine didn't turn out very good. Crying or Very sad

Don

I'm wondering why, back in '71, they had the turret travered to the rear? Was it stuck in that position. or did sombody not know which end was which?

For what they're worth, these were taken in March 1970 outside the old museum. Perhaps the turret is rusted in place? Shocked

Thanks for my first view into the LST Building interior, Dontos; much appreciated!

This one deserves a close-up for Bob since it's a 17th Cav bird. Laughing

Thats a Swiss G-13 Hetzer...

Don previously told me thats the original paint job on this StuG III

Sd.Kfz. 251/9 Ausf D?

Sd.Kfz. 10 - I somehow missed it in the Patton Museum inventory before...

JgPz IV/70

Sd.Kfz. 6 Half-Track

Sd.Kfz. 223?

Armyjunk2, nice set of pics of the Sd.Kfz. 234/4 PzSPW - one of two in the world. This one probably really should be on display... JMHO....

There's a third M4A1 in the museum collection now? I was aware of the Grizzly inside the museum, and the flamethrower in the LST building, but not a third... Although I have probably seen it before...
