Ft. Knox armor circa 1967 - pics #1 of 3
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Here are some old images taken with a Kodak Instamatic 126 (the most I could afford at the time) on Kodachrome color transparency film. The slides have been scanned and this results in some loss of color and resolution, alas.

Still, having made this disclaimer, some of you may find these of passing interest and I hope you enjoy them.

The M4A3 which used to be on the plinth on the west side of Dixie Highway.

American Graffiti-ized M4A3.

M4A3(76)W HVSS at flagpole on Brooks Field.

Retreat ceremony @ 1700 hours.

The Sherman adds its voice. Turret is manually rotated 180 degrees to fire to the east.

The view from the turret looking west along Chaffee Avenue.

Parade marching north along Wilson Road north of 7th Avenue.

Ireland Army Hospital in the background to the west.

M108s lined up on Brooks Field.

Doug's memory is flawless: he remembers the T-29 being in the Stithton Circle.

A 5-inch naval gun outside the old Patton Museum.

Some museum volunteer has taken artistic license with that spray gun!

Thanks! Great pictures. Aren't those M108 105mm Howitzers instead on M109?

Thanks, Mark. No Paladins, these. Those stubby barrels are, indeed, attached to M108s. Thanks for the correction. Smile

I love those old training photos, Doug. Mr. Green Which one are you? (..and don't tell us you're not in the picture because you're holding the camera.....)

Got any more to share?

'Fraid so, Hoss...somebody had to take the pics. I had my lowly windup Instamatic with me for the occasion. These were taken in '71.

Here's one from Sheridan school I took later that summer before shipping out for RVN. I'll just post the link so you can see it full size...it's a composite and posted over at VHPA. It's dynamic so you can enlarge it. I have more, but you get the idea. More of these are posted over at the Eaglehorse website on the M551 history thingy. I'll post that link below:
